    Voyage of the HMS Beagle

    Darwin embarked on a multi-year journey that spanned thousands of miles. He developed many critical components of his theory of evolution while traveling on this voyage. He collected vast amounts of insects and witnessed natural processes that supported evolutionary trait building.
  • Presentation on the theory of Natural Selection

    On July 1, 1858 Darwin's theory of Natural Selection was presented at the Linneon Society. After consulting with other researchers in his field, Darwin published his works up to that point to establish precedence.
  • Published Origin of Species

    On the Origin of Species was published On November 22, 1859. It proved to be very popular selling over 1200 copies upon release. Darwin organized his thoughts in a singular argument. Although he included his observation on sexual selection and similarities between humans and other mammals, he avoided the subject of human origins. Although, On the Origin of Species is said to have laid the groundwork for Darwin's theory of evolution, Darwin wouldn't use the term until 1871 in The Decent of Man.
