    After noticing the one of the wire traps had a bug in it, the men were sent back in to fix it. While there, Frank Wills, the security guard noticed tape over a door. He immediately called the police and the men were arrested. If Wills had not seen the tape, the men may not have been caught and the whole scandal may not have happened. Because of one error, the whole nation witnessed one of the largest political scandals ever.

    Nixon did not need to do hardly anything to win. He was favored in almost every state and there was almost no question to who was going to win the election. However, Nixon wanted to not just be good, but the best of all time. He wanted to win with the largest margin in history. Because he wanted it so bad, he and his committee stooped very low. Because of their willingness to do anything, the Watergate scandal occurred.

    The break-in at democratic headquarters was what got the ball rolling for Nixon’s resignation. To try to help Nixon win the election, people from Nixon’s administration broke in and stole campaign information from the Democrats. They also placed wire traps on the telephones. This was what started the series of events that led Nixon to having to resign.

This source told Jim that not only was Nixon's administration behind watergate, they were also behind numerous other political sabotages on Nixon's enemies. This article hit the front page and the public became increasingly unsure about what was going on in the Whitehouse. This article and meeting did nothing but add on to Nixon's list of what led to him being forced to resign.

    Nixon Refuses to Give the Tapes
    When asked to give the tapes of recording that were in the Whitehouse, Nixon refused. This refusal went on and on as long as it could. Because of Nixon's behavior, the Supreme Court got very frustrated with him. His obstruction of investigation brought up and made the argument of impeaching him even stronger.

    The Saturday Night Massacre was when Nixon got rid of multiple legal officials from the justice department. These officials included his attorney general, his deputy attorney general and the special counsel investigating the scandal at the time. This led congress to start discussing Nixon's impeachment. They also discussed pressing charges on him
  • The tapes are discovered

    The tapes are discovered
    In Butterfields testimony, he admits to being aware of conversations in the Whitehouse being recorded. Because he gave this information, investigators had something on Nixon. There was no questioning anymore if the president was up to something or not. If not for these tapes, they may have never been able to catch Nixon.
