Warren dissolved Buffet Partnership in 1969 to develop Berkshire Hathaway. He bought assets in media, insurance, and oil. He became famous for turning seemingly poor investments into gold. He then became director of the company in 1989 which went on till 2006.

Warren announced that he would be giving all of his money to charity, 85 percent of which went towards the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It became the largest charitable act in the United States. Then in 2010 Bill Gates and Warren created The Giving Pledge Foundation to get more wealthy people involved.

Warren disclosed that he had prostate cancer. He started treatment in July and fortunately completed his treatment that November.
