    Two powerful Greek city-states, Athens and Sparta had fought as allies, but Athens grew more powerful which escalated to three decades of war. Sparta was victorious, leaving Athens bankrupt.

    King Henry V crossed the English Channel with 11,000 troops to try to siege Normandy.
  • Unification of Italy

    Unification of Italy
    Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi, failed in their attempt to create an Italy united by democracy. However, A politician named Camillo di Cavour finally united Italy. Cavour used something called "Realpolitik" which means politics must be conducted in terms of self interest of nation-states.

    The Crimean War was a result of Russian pressure on Turkey. British commercial interests were threatened in the Middle East. France formed an alliance with Britiain and together they defeated the Russian army.

    The Civil War was fought between the Northern and the Southern United States. There was a lot of tension between them because the south was in favor of slavery and the north was against it. The southern states seceeded, which caused the start of the war.

    The Spanish American War originated from the Cuban struggle for independence from Spain. After many pleas from Cuba, the United States intervened. The United States was successful and after the Treaty of Paris was signed, all claim went back to Cuba.

    During World War II, Hitler invaded Poland from the west. Two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany. Germany had formed an alliance with Italy and had control of a large portion of Europe. Poland fell and Germany and the Soviet Union had divided control of it. Eventually, Japan joined the axis and attacked the United States. The war ended with an invasion of Germany by the Western allies.
  • Afghanistan War

    The United States began to attack Taliban forces with a bombing campaign. This was known as the war on terrorism after the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. The purpose of the invasion was to target Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden.
