This event impacted people from Vietnam, as well as the French colonial powers and the international community. This increased tensions between the two by directly challenging the U.S.-backed regimes and aligning with communist powers. The U.S viewed it as a threat to its containment policy.

    The main conflict in this event was that the French were anti-communist, and the Viet Minh were for communism. The war impacted the people in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam due to the war spreading in all three countries. This event increased tensions by becoming a proxy conflict in the broader Cold War. The U.S supported France in its efforts to maintain colonial control over Indochina because it feared the spread of communism in Southeast Asia.

This didn't increase tensions however, the Soviets and other communist countries used the U.S’s employment of Agent Orange in Vietnam as a propaganda tool. They portrayed it as an example of the U.S’s inhumane and environmentally destructive warfare, which intensified anti-ZAmerican sentiment worldwide.

This increased tensions by highlighting the limits of U.S power and influence. It emboldened the Soviets and their allies, the U.S was not always able to prevent the spread of communism.
