Vietnam Problems
In 1956, free elections were cancelled by the U.S. in fear of Ho Chi Minh, a communist, would win. The Vietnam government was corrupt under President Diem. -
The Draft
Most people that were drafted were poor or middle working class. In 1964, people started burning their draft cards. -
The Gulf of Tonkin Incident
The U.S. said the North Vietnamese fire on two U.S. Navy destroyers. Congress approves Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, Military action. -
Prostests
College Students occupied buildings across college campuses, roads were blocked, buildings were burned.The number of "Doves" or people opposing the war increased. -
The Tet Offensive
It was a Buddhist holiday, when 8,000 Vietcong troops attacked every metropolitan center in South Vietnam. -
Vietnamization
The U.S. would slowly withdraw troops because south Vietnamese people can defend better without the U.S. help. This did not help resolve the big problem and Protesters were still mad. -
Take Over
Two years after the U.S. pulls out of Vietnam, the North Vietnamese troops invade South Vietnam. The North take control of the whole country.
