Resolution to end the French Indochina War. Vietnam was cut at the 17th parallel until elections could be held to unify Vietnam in 1956. Ho Chi Minh was the controller of the North, South was countrolled by Ngo Diem. -
A New President For South Vietnam
South Vietnam renames itself the Republic of Vietnam, with Ngo Dinh Diem as their newly elected leader. South Vietnam's governemnt would come to be extreamly unstable which is partially why the U.S. had little trouble asisting in the killing of their newly elected leader. -

Against JFK's wish, the U.S. helps the assassination of South Vietnam's President. Many believe that the U.S. chose to help so that it could help pick his processor. -
North Vietnam Attacks.?
LBJ declares that the Northern Vietnamese have torpedoed two U.S. destroyers. Thus, any further offensive action done by the U.S. can be described as a response to North Vietnam’s original attack on our destroyers. -
Operation Rolling Thunder
LBJ ends in airstrikes for the first time that are destined to bomb North Vietnam. Operation Rolling Thunder was also one of the first offensive acts made by the United States in the onset of the Vietnam War. The Operation's main goal was to place military pressure on the North Vietnam Communist Government. -
My Lai Massacre
The My Lai Massacre was the mass killing of between 347 and 504 unarmed men, women, and children. The mass killing caught global attention and caused many anti-war riots including especially with college students. -
North Vietnam Loses a Leader
Ho Chi Minh, former communist leader of North Vietnam, dies at the age of 79. Minh was a huge supporter of a completely communist Vietnam, although he died too early to see his dream become a reality.
