    After winning the Reserve Championship ribbon at Zone Finals in April, the University of Wisconsin's Equestrian Team secures a spot to represent their zone at IHSA Nationals in Kentucky.

    Eight memebers of the UW Equestrian Team and four riders who qualified to ride individually pack up three rented fleet vans and head out on a nine hour drive to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

    UWET Arrives at the Kentucky Horse Park
    5:00 a.m. wake up calls are typical for competing equestrians. The Team makes a pit stop at Starbucks before going over to the horse park to watch the horses warmup. Each team member recieved a backpack filled with horse themed goodies to welcome them to the show.

    Wisconsin's Individual Intermediate Fences rider starts off the first day of the horse show with the first ride. She was just out of the ribbons with an 11th place finish.
  • UWET Brings Home the Ribbons

    The teams first day in Kentucky only seems to get better after the Individual Novice Fences rider places 6th and the Team Novice Fences rider takes 9th place.

    Co-Captain Shannon Roska (class of 2012), puts Wisconsin on the score board after she wins 5th place in Team Individual Flat.

    The team spends their evenings cramming in their studies, ironing horse show clothing and mentally preparing for another day of battling nerves and riding to win.

    Wisconsin starts off the day with a 10th place win in the Alumni Fences class. From there, the team takes an honorable mention in the Team Intermediate Fences class.

    What a Long Day
    After taking a break to explore the show grounds, the team returns to the ring for the teams Walk/Trot and Walk/Trot/Canter classes. A 4th place ride in Walk/Trot/Canter puts Wisconsin in 10th place for team standings.

    Last Day of Hunt Seat Showing
    On the last day of English Hunt Seat showing, UWET brings home 9th place overall! Nationals were very competative, almost every team earned points and there were several ties. The UW Equestrian Team held their ground against much more developed teams that recieve funding from their universities.
