    The Depression hits Utah hard. Unemployment is 35.8%, wage level goes down 45%, and annual per capita income goes down by 50%. Many Utahns go into farming and mining, receive aid from federal government programs, or seek help from the LDS church.

    Lt. Colonel Paul Tibbets, pilot of the famous Enola Gay, selected Wendover Air Force Base as the training ground for the 509th, the group that would eventually drop the atomic bomb over Hiroshima.
