    The Thirteen Colonies went up against the British and defeated them in war so that they could gain their independence from the British Crown. This allowed them to create the United States and form the first constitutional liberal democracy.
  • Declaration of Independence concieved

    Declaration of Independence concieved

    The declaration explained the war between the Thirteen Colonies and Britain and how they viewed themselves as independent sovereign states and not under British rule. With this new Independence declared, it opened the doors to forming the United States of America. It also highlighted certain rights that we still adhere to today.
  • US Constitution was formed

    US Constitution was formed

    Delegates formed Americas first constitution so that there would be a strong central government. It has seven articles that describes how the government is structured and how it operates. The constitution is what allows the government and the US today to run as it does and as the way that it does. It keeps the country stable.
  • George Washington is elected the 1st President of the United States

    George Washington is elected the 1st President of the United States

    George Washington was unanimously elected president with 69 electoral votes.This has been the only time in history to have happened. Being the first president he was responsible for setting the precedent for all future presidents in every aspect there was.

    The bill of rights adds to the Constitution certain rights, personal freedoms, and limitations on the governments power. This was created to protect the essential rights of all US citizens.The US still abides by this today.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase

    The United States purchased Louisiana from France, though France only controlled a portion of it. Essentially, what the US bought was the "preemptive" right to obtain Indian lands by treaty or conquest. With this purchase the US eventually doubled in size and strengthened the country.

    Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order during the Civil War that changed the legal status under federal law of more than 3.5 million enslaved African Americans in the ten states involved in the rebellion. This paved the way for all other states to adopt the law to abolish slavery and have brought us to where we are today.

    Due to an internal explosion of USS Maine in Havana Harbor in Cuba, the US stepped into the Cuban War of Independence. This led to a conflict that ultimately ended Spain's role as a colonial power but allowed the US to emerge as a world power. This helped the US form territorial claims that stretched from the Caribbean to Southeast Asia.

    The 19th Amendment

    the 19th Amendment announces that no citizen of the United States shall be denied the opportunity to vote by the US or any state based on their sex. This Amendment is why women can vote in elections just the same as the men since before it, they were not allowed.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor

    On December 7 of 1941, the Japanese attacked the US naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This caused president Roosevelt to declare war against Japan. Days later, Nazi Germany declared war on the US causing the US to officially enter WWII. Without the bombing of Pearl Harbor, most likely the US would not have officially entered the war but to continue to provide support from the sidelines.
