    U.S Imperialism is the cultural, economic, and social influence of America on other countries.
  • Coal Strike of 1902

    Coal Strike of 1902
    A strike by Anthacite coal miners who seeked more pay and less hours. Teddy Roosevelt was forced to intervene when millions of people would've frozen without the heat from coal. The workers also wanted to be recognized as a union but J.P Morgan didnt want to do that
  • World War 1

    World War 1
    World War 1 was known as "The Great War" that begin in the center of Europe and started when archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated. The United States didn't join the war until 1917. After the death of nearly 16 million people, World War 1 was over on November 11th, 1918.
  • Panama Canal Completion

    Panama Canal Completion
    The completion of the Panama Canal was an amazing achievement for mankind with over 800,000 ships passing through it over the last 100 years. The French began building the canal in the late 1800's but failed allowing the United States to take over the project.

    Great Depression
    The beginning of the great depression was marked by the Stock Market crash of 1929. Millions of people went bankrupt and banks closed. The effects of the Great Depression and the severe drought conditions in the South caused hundreds of thousands of farmers to become homeless and unemployed. The Great Depression ultimately did'nt end until the beginning of World War 2 when mmany materials were needed for war.

    The Bombing of Pearl Harbor
    The bombing of Pearl Harbor marked the entrance of the United States into WWII and also marked the end of the Great Depression. 21 ships were lost during The attack on Pearl Harbor with the loss of 2,400 Americans. The attack was undoubtably a huge mistake, with the U.S retailiating ten fold at the end of the war.

    Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki
    At around 2:00 AM The plane "Enolla Gay" dropped the first ever atomic bomb on a city and the damage was spread for miles. Thousands were killed and the Japanese refused to surrender until the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The Japanese were forced to surrender of suffer more devastation and clearing of cities.

    With the invasion of North Korea into South Korea, tensions were growing strong between the two countries and their allies. The U.S and other allied countries scrambled to suppress the North Korean war machine. What was supposed to be an easy war proved to be the complete opposite and the war did not end for 3 years

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    In October of 1962, An American U-2 spyplane caught sight of nuclear missile sites in Cuba. Kennedy talked with advisors for a few days to decide how to react to the situation. The U.S set up a blockade around Cuba to prevent more missiles from being transported. Kennedy also demanded that the missiles be removed. The Soviets and Americans both agreed upon dismantling the weapons if we didn't invade Cuba.

  • Watergate

    Watergate
    The Watergate scandal was an attempt to cover up, or discard of documents to give Nixon a better chance of becoming president again. A security guard got suspicious after finding tape on one of the Hotel entrance doors and called the police. The Watergate burglars were arrested and Nixon attempted to cover up evidence of the scandal. Nixon was impeached 2 years after Watergate

    Iran Hostage Crisis
    The Iran Hostage Crisis began when four Iranian students stormed the U.S Embassy and took over 60 people hostage. 13 were set free but the rest were held hostage for 444 days. President Carter attempted to rescue the hostages in operation Eagle Claw but they failed when one of the helicopters crashed killing 8 Americans

    End of the Cold War
    The Cold War ended when Russia and Ukraine decleared independence from the Soviet Union. Communism had fallen apart.A non violent war that lasted decades was finally over and Americans hoped to live in a world without tension between the biggest superpowers in the world.
  • WTO protests Seattle

    WTO protests Seattle
    The WTO protests were a result of people in Seattle not agreeing with trade laws and also their freedom of speech was being compromised. 50,000 to 100,000 protesters showed up from around the world and were mostly non-violent except for a small few. As a result of the few violent protesters, Seattle declared a state of emergency and police were harming innocent protesters. Events on this day eventually led the police chief to resign.
