Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia . This was due to the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary thought that Serbia was the one to blame. Many civilians agreed. -
U.S Entry to WWI
United States broke diplomatic relations with Germany. Hours after that the American liner Housatonic was sunk by a German U-boat. This was the very first time the United States broke from isolationism. This was also the very first time the U.S entered in a war to help other nations' affairs. -
Treaty of Versailles
After WW1 is won by the Allies, they signed an armistice. The signing of the document was meant to dicuss post-war world as a peace conference. Decisions were discussed between the major powers around the world. These included United States, Britain, France Italy, and Japan. -
The Great Depression
During the roaring 20's the U.S. was the biggest nation with the biggest economy. However the Great Depression then occurred. Stock markets crashed because the demand of products decreased and the supply was huge. Stock markets crashed and banks were closing down. -
The New Deal
When Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected as President he placed the New Deal. This would solve any Great Depression problems. It would increase the percentage of jobs. This was significant to the U.S. history because it helped highlight who dealt with the aftermath of the Great Depression. -
The U.S. enters WWII
As soon as after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the U.S. declared war against Japan. This immediately turned Germany's attention and declared war against the U.S. This would turn the tables in favor of the allies. It is significant in the U.S. history because it shows how neutral the U.S. was during this war up until the bombing of Pearl Harbor. -
The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The U.S made history this date when they dropped the nuclear bomb. It was the first nuclear bomb made by the U.S that was used on a target. The U.S with this bombing they ended the Japanese. They reached the end of the second world war. -
Baby Boom
This was an event that made a significant increase in the U.S population. The term "baby boom" was used to describe the massive increase of births following WWII. The people born between the years of 1946 and 1964 were identified as "baby boomers". This was significant because it made a sudden and massive increase in the population for over a few years in the U.S. -
The Beginning of the Cold War
Shortly after WWII there are two powerhouses left. The 2 biggest countries being the U.S. and the Soviet Union. These two nations have never been able to agree on what type of society should be ran. This is significant to the U.S. history because it demonstrated how they each wanted to be the winner in the nuclear arms race. -
McCarthyism
McCarthyism was the practice or belief for accusing people of being communists. Communism was feared by the U.S to have a rising in their country. This is significant in history because the government acted in a childish or nonsense way. A lot of U.S citizens were accused of treason to the nation for being "communists" and were blacklisted, lost their jobs, and sent to prison. -
Korean War
The Korean war was between the North and South Korea. North Korea had the support from China and the Soviet Union. The South had supported from the United Nations, including the U.S. It was a key factor for US involvement since it would also affect the US because they were fighting against their rivals. The US feared that their involvement would lead it to another world war since the North was being supported by China and the Soviets. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This was a historic landmark that took place in the Supreme Court. It was a case that focused on stating that "separate but equal" was not equal at all. The debate was against the racial segregation of kids in schools. This case was important because it was the beginning of extinguishing the racial segregation and other racial discrimination and proved that "separate but equal" was unconstitutional. -
The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a war fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. However each side had its' allies involving the Soviet Union and the United States. Once South Vietnam was starting to lose the war, the United States entered the Vietnam War. This event is significant to the U.S. history because it showed how a powerful army tried to end a positive country from turning communist. -
Explorer 1
This was a historic event in the U.S timeline and to their achievements. Explorer 1 was the first American satellite to be launched into space successfully. For the very first time the U.S had achieved a goal of having a system in space. This satellite was launched 4 months after Putnik orbited Space. -
The Assassination of John F. Kennedy
There was a presidential parade held in Dallas, Texas for John F. Kennedy. He wanted to raise votes for his party in order to win the reelection. However, John F. Kennedy was assassinated while driving through the parade. This is important to U.S. history because not only did a president get murdered but also the United States felt a heavy blow. -
Civil Rights Act 1964
The Civil Rights Act was enacted as a result of the Civil Rights Movement. This act made history in the U.S because it was enacted to stop all types of racial judgement. It outlawed the discrimination of people based on race, color, sex, religion, or national region. This was the very first time an act was written to defend people in the U.S that were not classified as "whites". -
The Moon Landing
The Apollo 11 was the first successful mission to send men into the moon for the United States. This turned the table in favor of the United States on the Cold War. Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin were the first men to be on the moon. This is important to U.S. history because it made the United States capable of keeping up with the Space Race. -
The Space Race
John F. Kennedy made the bold statement of wanting to land a man on the moon before the end of the decade. This was due to the unwanted pressure of the Soviet Union. They were having successful trials on the other hand the U.S. was not. When Neil Armstrong was able to set foot on the moon things began to change. This was significant to the U.S. history because it showed that the U.S. too was able to keep up with the Soviet Union. -
9/11
Thousands of american lives were lost in this horrible event. Terrorists hijacked two airlines and crushed them into the two most important towers in the U.S. Both of the World Trade Center towers were attacked by the terrorists. It was an attack that was also important because it destroyed the organization in which global regulation of trade between nations were dealt. -
The Great Recession
The Great Recession was what economists feared happening. As well as bankers and real estate companies. Prices on houses dropped dramatically due to people not interested in houses. This is important in U.S. history because it wasn't as horrible as the Great Depression however it still left a bad memory on banks and economist or investors.
