  • Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    Independence was formally declared on July 2nd, 1776. On July 4th, 1776, congress approved the final text. It wasn't signed until August 2nd, 1776.
  • Day the Articles of Confederation were adopted

    After 16 months of talking over the idea of a written government, the Continental Congress, sitting in its not yet permanent capital of York, Pennsylvania, agreed to adopt the Articles of Confederation on November 15, 1777.
  • British Surrender at Yorktown

    British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered his troops in Yorktown, Virginia. General Cornwallis brought about 8,000 soldiers to Yorktown. They were awaiting help from British ships that were supposed to arrive in New York. The ships never arrived, fortunately.
  • Shays Rebellion: Attack on the Springfield Armory

    2,000 farmers, part of the Shay's rebellion, attacked in Massechusettes on the new federal armory in Springfield. There were three farmers killed. Daniel Shays was the leader of this rebellion. The farmers were angry because they feared they would lose their land and independence because the new government was overrun by the business men.
  • The Constitutional Convention

    May 25 to september 17. It took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Congress needed to talk about a new government since the Articles of Confederation, which the citizens were not to fond of the Articles of confederation.
  • Ratification of the United States Constitution

    New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the document. In June, Virginia ratified the Constitution followed by New York in July.
  • Ratification of the Bill of Rights

    The articles from three to twelve were ratified by three-fourths of the state legislature. Some background, the Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments in the U.S.A. constitution.
  • Cotton Gin Patent

    Cotton gin was introduced to textile mills in 1794 to make production of cotton products a lot easier. A negative to this inventin was that there was a higher demand for cotton in the south, hence they needed more slaves to harvest the cotton.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark embarked on their journey out west on May 14, 1804. The journey ended on September 23, 1806. The purpose of their journey was to find the source of the Missouri river and to find the Pacific Ocean.
  • First Mill Built in Lowell, Massachusetts

    The every first textile mill was built in Lowell, Massachusetts. In fact, a textil emill is basically a factory. Back then, the mills made cotton products with the new invention called cotton gin.

    Trail of Tears

    The trail of tears was a very dismal time for one of the biggest indian tribes within the five civilized tribes; it was the forcible removement of the Cherokee indians. The journey of the Cherokee started on May 23rd, 1838, and ended on March 1st, 1839.
  • Gold Discovered at Sutter's Mill

    Gold had been found at this mill. In fact, they wanted to keep it under wraps, but instead the secret leaked and the Americans later fled to the west to strike at rich.
  • Signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The signing of this treaty happened after Mexico was defeated by the United States. The treaty included an additional 525,000 sqare miles to the United States.
  • The Battle of Fort Sumter

    The battle went from the 12 of April to the 14 of April, 1861. It was the bombing and surrender of Fort Sumter, near Charleston, South Carolina. This started the american civil war.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg

    This battle went from July first to July third. This battle is considered one of the most crutial engagements of the Civil War. The Civil War was eventually won by the confederates.
  • The Battle of Little Bighorn

    The enddate of the Battle of Little Bighorn was June 26, 1876. This battle was between the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne Warriors versus Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer's Army in a dispute over land.
  • The years of the Great Depression

    Above is the start date. The end date of the great depression is December 31, 1939. The gerat depession was a worldwide economic crisis. This affected every person. Not just the poor, but also the wealthy.
  • Apollo 11 moon lnding

    Apollo 11 was the flight that succesfully landed the first humans on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Lance Armstrong was actually the very first to walk on the moon.
  • September 11 attacks 9/11

    The 9/11 attacks was a series of hijackings that took down the twin towers, part of the pentagon, and one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The terrorist group name was al-Quada. bin Laden was assasinated about a decade later.
  • Birthday

    The day I was born was October 10, 2001. Ironically enough, on paper, my birthdate is 10/10/01 or all ones and zeros.
  • The inauguration of Barack Obama

    This is the first inauguration of President Barack Obama. 6 years ago, he became the first african-american president. He also became the 44th president as well.
