    telephones make it easier to comunicate over long distiances, or close ones. New technology has provided us with equally effective ways to communicate, such as internet, cell phones, texting, etc. However, the telephone is a convenient way to contact someone you need to speak to by voice.

    Radio was invented after a progressive research on wireless telegraphy by Guglielmo Marconi. It was invented to help communicate from specific distances. It is used for entertainment, news, in case of emergency..

    Henry Ford created a new way of making cars, making cars mor affordable. This created jobs and helped the economy. As well as allowed people to live farther from work .

    Great migration

    The great migration was when six million African-Americans migrated out of the south. They left the south because of discrimination and lynching. After WWI there were many job opportunities for them in the north and California. It was better for them there but sometimes they were still discriminated against but it wasn’t as bad as in the south.
  • 18th amendment

    Alcohol was a huge problem in society, it was involved in most of the crimes. Women were tired of being abused by their husbands; domestic abuse almost always involved alcohol. 18th amendment prohibited the manufacture, sale, and distribution of alcohol. This led to organized crime was because gangs were taking advantage of the black market.

    The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. Women fought for a long difficult battle to get the right to vote. Although Woodrow Wilson was a supporter of civil rights he didn't support the idea of women having the right to vote.
  • Emegency Quota Act

    In response to extreme levels of immigration form Europe the emergancy quota act was created to reduce immigration to 3% of each race already living in the US. It was ment to be a temporary solution.

    This act reduced immigration even more to 2% of each race already living in the United States. People didn't like having different cultures or people that weren't like them so mmagrants often faced many heardships. However European immagrants were more tolerated than those from asia.

    Stock market loses 11% of total value because of investors who were desperate to sell their stocks. Although the economy lost billions of dollars there was still 2% of people that gained money.

    The stock market loses 12 more %. $33 billion were lost in two days. This was considered the start of the great depression.

    Hoover Dam constructed

    The hoover dam project put 40 thousand employees to work. It provides electricity for cities like Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It also created the biggest reservoir in California.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt elected president

    FDR was elected for saying that he will use government to get out of the great depression. He became president at the peak of the depression and he died at the end of it. He passed the new deal and used the government to fix problems in society.
  • 1933 state of the economy

    This was the worst the economy has ever been. Half of all banks closed down; people lost millions of dollars. The unemploymet rate was 25%.
  • 21st amendment

    This is the amendment that overturned the 18th amendment ultimately ending prohibition, making alohol legal gain. Helping the economy by puting a tax on alcohol was motive for ending prohibition. It was also the only amendment that has ever been overturned.
  • GI Bill of Rights

    It is part of the new deal because FDR understood that veterans who fight for our country should be able to buy a house and have free education. It also contributed to the growth of the suburbs because cheap loans were given to people so that they could buy houses. It is one of the new deal programs that still exist today.
