    American John Marshall had a crew work to build a saw mill in an area close to Sacremento. When he found multiple gold nuggets, This brought over half a million people from all around the world to California, in what is the largest human migration in history.

    America was becoming bigger and faster. And this was helping them economically. Business's were growing and factories were producing products faster then ever before. And with immigrants coming to America by the thousends that gave all the new machines somebody to work them. Also this is when most of the cities in America today got their ethnic groups. Because immigrants couldnt afford big nice houses and what not so they started living in little apartments in and around the cities.

    Passed by U.S. Congress, it distriputed 160 acres of unocuppied land to homeowners who were U.S. Citizens. The homeowners would have to pay a normal fee for the land.

    Monopolies were used by big business's and industries to basically take out their competition, and since America was new to the big industries and factories thing alot of things happened that wouldnt now. Some companies would buy out all the smaller companies leaving no competition. So one industry weather it was oil, steel, etc would be the only company in its field, making all the money. This later became illegal.

    The Transcontinental Railroad was a railroad that would travel all the way from the East Coast to California. This set America on a great path economicly and transportation wise. America was growing.

    Political machines became big during this time because there were very few rules in politics and many people in America at this time (mostly immigrants) were struggling. So when a mayor, governor, etc was in a race and in need of votes they'd come to the struggling families and would make them an offer. If they voted for them then they'd give them money or do something to help them and their families. making this very big during this time.

    In Chicago a bomb is thrown at policemen who are trying to break up a rally, the police respond by firing at the crowd killing and injuring multiple people in the crowd. The crowd or workers was there to protest the killing of a striker the day before by the police.

    America declared all countries should be allowed to trade with China, this not only helped American Economy but the China economy also. This was difficult because China was a self sufficient country and wasn't welcoming to the idea of help.

    Was a result of Imperialism getting to China. Over 200 people were killed during the Rebellion and many were incarcerated. This rebellion changed the feelings on immigrants coming into the nation.

    Teddy was sworn in as President after President William McKinlyey passed away on Sept 13th. Teddy tried very hard to bring an end to monoplies taking down a couple of them during his presidency. He tried doing anything he could to help out the common hard woorking people of America. kind of giving them a voice.

    Imperialism was a time when America just seemed to have something to do with everyone's business. The world was getting ready for war and nobdy could leave the other alone. And the US was defending allies but going into other lands to build and expand but didn't want many other countries doing the same. America was like the worlds policeman.

    Even though it started in 1881 the US took control of it in 1904. President Teddy Roosevelt bought the canal from Colombia, paying them US$10 million, plus US$250,000 per annum for several years. When the canal was finished it connected the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cut across the Isthmus of Panama. This was made so ships didn't to have travel all the way around South America.

    The Allied Powers was alliance between France, Russia, and Italy. They took one the Central powers in WW1 and defeated them. The Allied Powers were joined by many countries during WW1 including the USA.

    The Central Powers was made up of Germany and Austria-Hungry. They were later joined by Turkey. They fought against Russia, Great Britain and France (US was also on this side). The central powers would also be joined by Bulgaria.

    World War 1 was the first war of its kind. It featured tons of modern weapons (tommy gun,flame thrower, etc), different strategies, and it was a WORLD war. World War 1 ended with a lot of loose ends in the Treaty of Versaille which ultimately led to World War 2. Also this leds to the Depression because farmers became to overproduce food to help feed other countries.

    During the early 1900's womens roles started changing in society, they were starting to get jobs and make money. They were starting to fight for their rights. This helped make society what it is today.

    The 1920's was when America became focused on entertainment. There were new types of dancing, new music, new products for people to use, new social groups (flappers, gangs, etc). People in America were now living lives insteasd of always working. Things like baseball, jazz, dancing, magaazines, radios, etc became very popular.

    Prohibition was the government making alchol illegall in hope of stoping or lowering the crime rate and corruption, reducing social problems, lowering taxes needed to support prisons and poorhouses, and improving health and hygiene in America. Things didn't workout that way as alcohol became more dangerous, more organized crime was being committed, and prisons became overloaded.

Guys like Al Capone ruuning gamngs streets weren't as safe as they used to be. and the numbers showed it with death totals reaching 12,000 yearly across America.

    Al Capone ran the streets of Chicago during the early 1900's. He was known as America's best known gangster. He had ties with everyone for mayors to police officers. Capone was known for running speakeasies, bookie joints, gambling houses, brothels, horse and race tracks, nightclubs, distilleries and breweries.

    As baseball became more and more popular in the 1920's, so did Babe Ruth. He was an icon, he was the face of baseball during its golden age, he was the Great Bambino. Known for his towering home runs and cocky attitude Babe Ruth may go down as the greatest baseball player of all time.

    The late 20's to mid 30's was a very tough time for American citizens. They had an awful economy, a president that didn't try to help them out, stock market crash, banks shuting down, losing their jobs, and more. But Franklin Roosevelt helped change that.

    FDR took ove rthe Presidency after President Hoover nearly drove the US throw the ground. And he was faced with a very tough task. How was he going to help this struggling country get back on its feet. And somehow he did it with his New Deal policy that set up acts and what not to help the American people out. He did such a good job he was elected president 3 times.

    Overprodution was also a cause of the Depression as farmers during the 1910's produce tons of ccrops for struggling foriegn countries, the only problem they weren't struggling anymore and weren't in need of crops so all these farmers had all this land of crops that were un-needed. So the crops died the land died and farmers were left with almost nothing.

    World War 2 was caused by World War 1 and they were two of the deadleist wars in history. World War 2 was marked by events like the Holocaust, the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, and the killings of MILLIONS. This war will always be one of the greatest wars in the history of man kind.

    Hitler was one of the most influential people in the world, which may seem sick to say but he convinced millions of people that it was ok to try and kill a whole population of people. Hitler was the leader of the Nazi's in Germany during the 1930's through the 40's. And he became a dictator pretty much and almost took over the World. And if it wasn't for the US he may have done it and got away with the Holocaust (killing millions of Jews)

    After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the American people feared another attacked, this put pressure on President Roosevelt to take action against those of Japanese decent in the US. On February 19th 1942 Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. Under the terms of the Order, some 120,000 people of Japanese descent living in the US were removed from their homes and placed in internment camps. Life in the camps was hard and families were seperated.

    Because many men were fighting in the War, families needed money. So the women in families began to take jobs and to help make money. They were working the same jobs men were before the war and were proving that they too could work for a living, to support theor families.

    He became president in 1945 due to the death of President Roosevelt. He was strongly anticommunist and suspicious of Stalin. He believed that World War II started because Britain tried to appease Hitler.

    The 1950's was another social time in America, as teens went mad over the new style of music called Rock N' Roll and its stars Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, etc. TV also became very popular in households. Also during the 50's a Cold War broke out in Korea, a war that would led to the US getting involved and fighting in which would turn into the Vietnam War.

    Rock N' Roll was a huge part of the 1950's. Teens all across America were falling in love with it, while they're parents were furious over the new type music and the dancing that came with it. Stars were born because of Rock N' Roll guys like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, etc.

    Sputnik was the first satellite to leave Earth's orbit. The mission was done by the USA's Cold War rival the USSR.

    The 1960's was a time that America was working towards equallity and fair rights for blacks and gays and etc. JFK made a lot of progress in the space program for the US, to get a man on the moon (NASA).

    Even thought the war had been going for over 5 years, the US became getting involved when South Vietnam was beginning to be the target of both North Vietnam and the Vietkong. And when France left the war they left US to fight for itself with only South Vietnam and they had very little reason to even be there.

    November 22th 1963 was one of the sadiest days in American history, when President John F. Kennedy was assasinated during a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson is sworen in later that day.

MLK will go down as the face of the Civil Rights movement and always be remember in American history. On April 4th 1969 King was assasinated in his hotel room in Memphis.

    A group of American soldiers was told to go into a village supposedly filled with armed enemies and kill anything that moved. The group of soldiers went into the village and did as told... The only problem was the village wasn't filled with enemies it was filled with innocent families of men, women, and children. Sadly the group was never informed to back of until it was to late killing the majority of the people in the village.

    A group of students stood protesting the US involvment with the War in Cambodia were just doing what many of the students across America were doing. Until the group began throwing things at the guards who then turned and began shooting at the crowd. Killing 4 students and wounding 9 others.
