    After Berlin was locked in by the Soviets, the United States started sending loads of food and supplies to the people in Berlin.

    The marshall plan was a policy that would help provide money to the European countries that were doing poorly because of how WWII affected them.

  • First H-bomb detonated by the US

    This was big because the US detonated their first full scale thermal nuclear weapon and they knew what the damage and power it held in it.

  • Jonas Salk invents the polio vaccine

    Polio was a disease that was going around like crazy and ruining lives. Jonas Salk came up with a vaccine for it to save many and many Americans from the disease.

  • USSR launches sputnik

    The launch of Sputnik was huge for the whole world. It cause a lot of scares and people started living in fear that a nuclear bomb was going to be dropped from space by the Soviets.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis - Russia sent missiles and weapons that were capable of destroying a good portion of the US therefore the US commanded that Russia takes them back. It had a lot of the American people scared a bomb was going to be dropped on them

  • Gulf Of Tonkin resolution

    An act that was passed to allow the president full military control without having to go through congress

  • Establishment of Medicare and Medicaid - all US states will provide free health care for the low income people to assure they are healthy

  • Tet offensive - A turning point in the Vietnam war where America realized that they weren't going to win.

  • Tinker VS Des Moines

    Ruled that students should be allowed to use their rights at school

  • Kent state university shooting - The May 4th massacre was a shooting that took place in the University of Kent State killing 4 people and wounding 9 others.

  • Pentagon papers - Papers reports telling the American people the truth about Vietnam and what America is doing to their country

  • Amendment 26 - An amendment was passed to change the voting age from 21 to 18

  • Water Gate Scandal leading up to Nixon's resignation - FBI agents were caught breaking into the offices of the democratic party buildings and Nixon tried to cover it up.

  • War Powers Act

    An act that limited the amount of soldiers to be sent out to war. It made the US go back to waiting for congress' approval

  • Fall of Saigon - This marked the end of the Vietnam war as it was the last city the communist needed to take over to gain complete control over Vietnam.

  • Camp David Accords - Series of agreements lead that led to peace treaty between Egypt and israel

  • Iran Hostage Crisis - 52 Americans were captured by Iran and left the 2 countries at a standoff for 444 days

  • Iran Contra Affair - During Reagen's second administration as president he secretly sold off weapons to Iran but what he did was later on brought to the light and America saw what it was
