  • Compromise of 1850

    When california became a free state.

  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Trying to attract railroads in the North. Illinois inventor Stephen Douglas introduced the act in 1854.

  • Bleeding Kansas

    Fearing that kansas would become the next slave state. A band of pro-slavery men burned down lawrence in 1854. Then an abolutionist gang led by john brown killed five border ruffians at the Pottawatomie Massacre.

  • Election of 1860

    When Abraham Lincoln was elected president.

  • The Confederate States of America

    They established thier own government.

  • First Battle of bull run

    The first battle of the civil war. In Prince William County, Virginia.

  • Emmancipation Proclamation

    An order carried out by Abraham Lincoln to free the slaves.

  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The first battle in the three day series of the civil war. Over 46,000 lives were lost.

  • Lincoln Re-Elected president.

    Abraham Lincoln was elected for his second term.

  • Abraham Lincoln Assasinated

    He was killed in a theater by John Wilkes Booth.
