  • Kent State Shootings

    Kent State Shootings
    Occurred at Kent State University in Ohio and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard. Four Students were killed, and 9 others were wounded. This event epitomized the division that the Vietnam War had created on America.
  • Invasion of Cambodia

    Invasion of Cambodia
    America, accompnied by South Vietnam invade Cambodia. The invasion would disrupt the Vietcong supply lines and destroy the bases in Cambodia that used to support opperations on South Vietnam.

    An American crime film which is based on the novel The Godfather. The movie mainly revolves around an ordinary man who is being changed into a Mafia Boss.One of the greatest films in the gangster genre.It won three Oscars that year: Best picture, Best Actor, and in the catagory, Best Adapted Screenplay.

    The Scandal that occured during Nixons Presidency.Some men broke into the Democratic National Headquarters. It was found that the people were associated with Nixon.When news came out about it Nixon tried to cover up the incident. In the end, this event leads to the only President in history who has resigned.

    In the 1972 Summer olympics, Mark Spitz won seven gold medals. Mark Spitz set new world records in all 7 events he participated in. The only time someone has passed his 7 medals was in 2008 when Michael Phelps won 8 medals in Beijing.

Jane Roe was unmarried and pregnant, she protested that not allowing us to choose is violating the the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendments which guarantee personal liberty and the right to privacy implicitly guaranteed

    America and North Vietnam signed a Peace Treaty to ease some tension. After the treaty there was a ceasefire with North Vietnam so America could get out and stop the aid they were giving the South Vietnam. The North also allowed the POWs to return with the Troops.

    Gerald Ford became the Vice-President after Spiro Agnew resigns. Then, when Richard Nixon resigns on August 9, 1974 Gerald Ford took his place too, as president of the United States. Gerald Ford is the first and only person to serve as President and Vice-President.

    The Arabs decided to cut oil off from nations who are supporting the Arabs enemy, Isreal in the Yom Kippur War in October of 1997. The price of oil in the United States rose. The prices got so high nearly 90 percent of gas stations stopped selling gas on Saturdays and Sundays.

    Heiress Patty Hearst Kidnapped
    Patty was klidnapped freom her apartment where they beat her fiance and drove away with Patty in the trunk. She was kidnapped by the SLA(Symbionese Liberation Army), a group against the american government. She was taken because her grandfathe, William Hearst, was a newspaper magnet and she would get the country's attention. During her captivity she was brainwashed and on april 15 she helped rob a bank in San Fransico. She was charged with robbery but later pardoned by Jimmy Carter.

    It all started with the fall of Saigon, the South's capitol for defense. The uinited states was in the process of completely pulling out of the war and offered no help to the South. Once this main city had fallen the South surrendered because they could not fight anymore without the aid of the U.S.

    Americans learned about the Watergate Scandel and they learned about the cover-up dealing with Nixon. The country was going to impeach the president but instead Richard Nixon became the first president to resign from presidency. The Americans began to lose trust in their government and their leaders.

    After the Watergate Scandal America was far from happy with their president, Richard Nixon, who was found guilty of being asocioated with the Watergate scandal. America was very close to impeaching the president, but before America could, Nixon resigned. Nixon is the only president, even up to date, to ever resign from presidency.

    The bicentenniel was a series of celebrations across the nation for the 200th year our country had been around. It landed on a Sunday and in bigger cities plans had started in1966. There were elaborate fireworks and parades. Nostalgia and patriotism spread throughout the country this year, The U.S was given gifts from other countries. There were even special bicentenniel coins minterd that year.

    Democrat Jimmy Carter becomes President
    Jimmy Carter only served one term. He pardoned a moajority of the draft evaders as his first official movement in office. He accomplisjed, or helped stablish, the Panama Canal treaty and Camp David Accords. He was around during the Three Mile Island accident and the Iran Hostage Crisis.

    It took nearly a year to find and confirm a place to sell the product. Eventually Radio Shack agreed. It was the first computer. The PET was pretty much and oversized calculator with a few extra features.

    The mini series was basedon Alex Haley's book Roots: The Sage of an American Family. COnsisted of 12 hours, the show followed Haley's family starting with Kunta Kinte. The finale stands at the 3rd highest rated U.S program ever.

    It was Jimmy Carter's first deed as president. It did not apply to those who were AWOL. It wiped the criminal record clean of this event/crime.

    It was a framework for a peace treaty between Egyt and Israel. It was witnessed by Carter and later declared a cold peace because it didn't solve the problem.

    This is the worst nuclear accident in U.S history. Somebody in the nuclear plant overrode the automatic sytem the controlled the amount of coolant used. The press related very poorly to the solution that was offered when 40,000 gallons of radiation was poured into the local river.

    Iran Hostage Crisis Begins
    52 americans were held hostage in Iran for 444 days. When the Iranian Revolutuion took over the American Embassy in Tehran the people were taken hostage. Negotiations took place but an agreement had yet to be reached. The situation climaxed when a failed attempt to recuse the people ended in deaths. They were released when the signing of Aligers Accords occured a little while after Regan was sworn in. This furhtered weakened ties between Iran and the U.S.
