    The Pilgrim fathers are one of the first groups of british colonists settled in the futur territory of USA. They started their trip on September 16th 1620 in Southampton. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean aboard their sailboat named Mayflower. They arrived in the present state of Massachusetts in November.

    On this date, Martin Luther King pronounced his famous speech " I have a dream ". Moreover, on this day, before the speech of MLK, a march took place on Washington for jobs and freedom. This day represents a turning point in the history of fight against segregation. This speech stayed a symbol known through all over the world.

But in 1871, the KKK was declared illegal. Moreover, this year have been marked by the creation of the National Rifle Association (NRA). The NRA is a powerful lobby. The KKK disappeared officially in 1944.

    Schools in Alabama were desegregated in 1963. Governer George Wallace triggered the segregation in school because he personnally blocked the entrance of the Alabama university to Vivian Malone Jones and James Hood ( who were the two first black students). John F. Kennedy, the president at that time, sent troops to end this blockade. Wallace is victim of an assassination attempt which left him paralyzed.

The Civil Rights Act was signed by the 36th president of the United-States Lyndon Baines Johnson. He became president on November 22nd, 1963, the very day John F. Kennedy was murdered.

    The Black Panther Party was formed in 1966. This revolutionary Afro-American movement has played a decisive part in the Civil Rights Movement. The member of the Black Panther Party named Black Panthers wanted a revolutionary war to achieve equality in education, housing and employment. They believed that the non violence campaign of Luther King had failed.

    On this date, two American astronauts (Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong) walked on the moon for the first time. It is thanks to the Apollo program launched by John F. Kennedy (who was assassinated in 1963) that walk on the moon was possible for these two astronauts.
