    On this day the founders of our nation signed the Declairation of Independence. This very piece of legislation whent on to be one of the most famous documents in the history of the United States.
  • Ratification of the US Constitution

    Ratification of the US Constitution
    On the 29th of May, 1790, the colonies adopted the US Constitution.
  • Loisiana Purchase

    Loisiana Purchase
    On April 30, 1803, the Lousiana purchase was signed by France. It was not officialy anounced, however, untill July 4, that same year. Furthermore, it wasn't untill October 20th that Congress ratified the purchase, which officialy doubled the size of the nation.
  • Lewis and Clark Journey

    Lewis and Clark Journey
    Starting in May of 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William clark journeied west to explore the dangerous new land. They encounterd a variety of plants and animals, not yet known to the American's. They also charted maps that would help travelers get around in the future. It wasn't untill September of 1806 that the expodition came to an end, with the explorers back in St. Louis. (McDougal Littell page 346-348)
  • Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion
    One of the most unforgetable and violent rebellions in the south was led by a man named Nat Turner. Nat learned to read when he was young and studied the bible. He came to see himself as a "Prophet of god" and led 70 of his followers into bloodshed, killing over 50 white men women and children. Before long, Nat and his men ran low on ammunition and were captured. Nat was hung for his crimes (McDougal Littell 376).

    The Texas Revolution
    The Texas Revolutiion began on October 2, 1835. It lasted untill April 21, 1836. The Texas Revolution got started when people from America began to settle in the area we now know as Texas. At the time however, it belonged to Spain. It got to a point where Mexico had to draw the line. Unfortunetly for them, we didn't like following orders. We fought Mexico, eventually overwhelming them, and taking the area for our own.

    Starting in november of 1846, and ending in Febuary, the next year, the war with mexico was a relativly short war. In contrast, the outcome of the war was collasal. The US had taken yet another territory; giving us the area we now see as South-Western America.

    The California Gold Rush was one of the most famous events in American History. It was just another way for American settlers to get rich quick, and many people jumped at the opertunity. The journey was difficult and unforgiving. It did, however result in a booming new indestry that helped shape modern america.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    "Bleeding Kansas" was the Kansas Territory from 1855 to 1858. There came a time when the locals had to vote to decide weather the territory would become a slave or free state. The results showed that the majority voted proslavery. This happend because many people from proslavery states moved to Kansas and voted illegaly. Antislavery representitives from the state denied this and proslavery representitives retaliated. Bloodshed broke out in Kansas and a huge conflict began (McDougal Littell 487)
  • Harper's Ferry

    Harper's Ferry
    Harper's Ferry was the site of the infamous, John Brow's Raid. Brown's men attacked the compound seeking to steel from the military arsenal. The abolitionists maintained control of the town in hope that local slaves would come and fight by their side. Unfortunetly for them, no slaves joined their fight. They were outgunned by the US Marines and inevitably, overrun. John Brown was soon captured and hung for treason (McDougal Littell, page 497).
  • Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

    Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    America's 16th president, Abraham Lincoln was killed by a man named John Wilkes Booth while he was at the theater. At 10:15 John shot the president in the back of the head and stabbed a gaurd in the shoulder. He proceeded to escape on horseback, leading up to one of the greatest manhunts in history.The president was anounced dead the following morning at 7:22 A.M.

    On August 6th, 1945, the US dropped te first ever atomic bomb, over Hiroshima, Japan. 3 days later they dropped a second bomb over Nagasaki. 6 days after the second bombing, the Japaniese surendered to the allies.

    On January 15, 1967, the Packers beat the Chiefs 35-10 in the first ever football world championship. The term 'Super Bowl' however, was no used untill two years later, in 1969.
