  • The signing of the declaration of indipendance

    The signing of the declaration of indipendance
    On this date, 56 delegates of the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This document stated that the 13 American colonies would be independent states, and would no longer be part of the British Empire. This was one step forward into the final draft of the declaration of independence being ratified on July 4th.
  • Ratification of the United States Constitution

    Ratification of the United States Constitution
    On this date, the United States Constitution was adopted and created by the authors of the Philadelphia Convention. It was then signed by 39 of the 55 delegates. The purpose of this Constitution, was to replace the Articles of Confederation of 1777. The Constitution originally had only 7 Articles, but since it was adopted, it had been amended 27 times. Then, it was finally ratified in 11 states. This went into effect on March 4th, 1789.

    The Louisiana Purchase
    On April 30th, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana territory for $15 million dollars, which was 3 cents for one acre of land. Because of that purchase, the United States had doubled in size.(McDougal Littell)

    The Louis and Clark Journey

    The journey had begun the summer of 1803, they stopped in ST. Louis and spent their winter there. Thy set out again in 1804, they went to present day North Dakota and spent the winter there with a Native American tribe. They set out in spring 1805, Sacagawea had joined them. She made a huge impact on the journey, and it was an amazing impact. In November 1805, they had found the Pacific Ocean. They returned to ST. Louis in 1806.

    The Texas Revolution
    The Mexicans had wanted to be safe from the Native Americans so they decided to invite the Americans into the Texas territory so that they would have some sort of defense. As more and more Americans came in, the Mexicans were soon out numbered. The Americans wanted to then have independence in Texas but the Mexicans would allow it. It had caused an uproar and a war broke out. The war came to an end on April 21st, 1836. The cause of the war now gave us a state known as Texas.

The route took them longer and they had gotten stuck in a blizzard. All their food had been eaten and they were suffering of starvation. The Donner Party had gotten to the point of canabilism.

    The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    At a play in Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor, who shot him at the back of his head. The attack came five days after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army, which ended the American Civil War. The General was later after tracked down and killed in a Virginia farmhouse, while people mourned Lincoln's tragic death.

    It was the beginning of World War I. This happened in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, China, and off the coast of South and North America. Two alliances, The Allies and the Central Powers, expanded and fought in the war. The Allies admitted victory in the end, and four Empires disappeared.

    The Stock Market Crash of 1929
    A Great Wall Street Crash, known as "Black Tuesday", hit the New York Stock Exchange in one day, when investors traded millions of shares. Everything spiraled downwards, as billions of dollars were lost and thousands of investors were wiped out. After a big recovery of the Stock Markets, stock prices were lower than their actual value, and the United States went into something called the "Great Depression". The U.S. economy didn't fully turn around until after World War II.

    The First Appearance of Superman in Action Comics
    It was Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1, and was made as an issue. A construction worker actually found one in a random wall of the house he bought and was currently fixing. It was well worth over $100,000 at an online auction, but he found a tear on the comic, which could have been an extra $75,000, if it wasn't there. The comic issue was finally sold for a whopping $175,000.

    WW2 was a bloody and long war. It had begun September 1st 1939 when Germany had invaded Poland. The war lasted for 6 years until finally the Germans and Japanese surrendered to the Allies in 1945.

    On the 7th of December, Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. This had started WWII against the Axis Powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The US fought with Britain and Soviet Union and made up the Allied Powers.

    The United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The U.S. was the first and only nation to use atomic weaponry. This marked the end of World War II, but people said that it also marked the beginning of the Cold War.

    The Korean War started when 75,000 soldiers from the North Koreans army when across the 38th parallel. This was the first action of the military in the Cold War. By the time July came around, America had joined the war on South Koreas behalf. The American officials wanted to make peace with North Korea but they were warned that it might cause WW3. Then, in July 1953 the war had ended.

    The Vietnam War was the struggle between nationalist forces who were attempting to unify Vietnam under a communist government. The US attempted to prevent the spread of communism. The US then lost suport from all the Americans.

    John F. Kennedy was inaugurated as the 35th President of the United States, on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol. On Inauguration Day, a huge snowstorm came that created chaos in Washington, with several disasters taking place. But, after saying his Inaugural Address, it was remembered as the best in the history of the U.S. That challenged Americans to serve their country, back at the time of the Cold War.

    On this date, Ronald Reagan's Inauguration was held for the first time on the West Front of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. He was sworn in as this country's 40th President with George H. W. Bush as his Vice President. During his speech, 52 Americans who were being held hostage in Iran for 444 days, were released. The release of the hostages, brought the country closer together and their support was expressed with yellow ribbons tied everywhere.

    On this date, it was Spider-Man's first appearance in comics. A copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 was found in a person's attic, and was sold for $1.1 million on an online auction. The comic beat Batman's first appearance from 1939, and became the second most expensive comic ever sold

    The First Super Bowl Between The Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs
    On this date, the first ever Super Bowl was played at the Los Angeles' 100,000-seat Memorial Coliseum, in California, with the Green Bay Packers against the Kansas City Chiefs. Lamar Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, came across his daughter's Super Ball, and thought of the name, "Super Bowl", for the championship game. After the first Super Bowl, the Green Bay Packers won the championship, beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and each player received $15,000 for winning th game.

    The shuttle Challenger had just left the launching pad. The shuttle was about 10 miles above the earth when it stated to catch on fire. Administration had reported that they lost radio signal about 74 seconds into the flight. 7 lives were lost, 6 crew members and a high school teacher.

    Ever since I was 4, I was signed up for dance class. I had first done ballet tap and jazz, but I didn’t like it. I wanted to do hip-hop, but the teachers wouldn’t let me, I had fought until finally they said let’s see what she can do. I was about…. 5-6 when I finally was able to dance hip-hop. Ever since then, I loved it. Dancing is part of my life.
