    The signing of the Declaration of Independence
    The signing of the Declaration of Independance was a big step for America. It took Thomas Jefferson 2 days to finish editing the document! The Continental Congress signed the doucemnt in Indenpendance Hall. The Declaration of Independence is about the Colonies claiming independace from Great Britan.

    In 1775 the Revolutionary War started. It included the British mainland colonies. This is very important because this war gained independence for the United States.
  • Ratification of the United States Constitution

    Ratification of the United States Constitution
    On Sepember 28, 1787, Congress told the state legislatures they had to call ratification for Article VII, which stated that nine states had to ratify for the Constitution for it to be approved. This event it important because it says how the Consitution got approved.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was bought by Thomas Jefferson from France for $15 million dollars. Because of this purchsae, it doubled the size of the nation and it opened up the Mississppi River for transporting goods. It is important beucause it opened up land for people to farm, gave people the opportunity to start new lives out west, and it opened up the Mississippi River. (McDougal Littell, 346)
  • The Lewis and Clark Journey

    The Lewis and Clark Journey
    Thomas Jefferson appointed Lewis and Clark to go explore the new land of the Louisiana Territory. They had to go explore from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean. During that time they had to fight off wildlife, sickness, Indians, and the terrain. When Lewis and Clark got back, people went to move out west and start new lives. They also gave good information on the widlife out there, and they helped produce well written maps. (McDougal Littell, 348,349)
  • The Texas Revoltion

    The Texas Revoltion
    The Texas Revolution was a series of 5 battles. Sam Houston, Juan Seguin, James Fannin, were a few of the people who were associated with this war. The Texas army killed half of the Mexican army in only 18 minutes. Then sometime in December 1836, the Texans put up their flag in the independent nation. (McDougal Littell, 429-431)
  • Donner Party

    Donner Party
    The Donner Party was a group that traveled to the west. They thought that they were taking a short cut on their trip, but it actually added more travel. Since of the aweful terrian, they got trapped in the mountains because of snow. There supplies was getting scarcely low, so they had to eat their own people that died.   • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    There was a bunch of gold out in California, and people traveled from all over to get some gold so they could become millionaries. People like the Chinese, Irish, American, Mexican and Belguims. Also, since of the quick population change, it economically grew California and the whole nation. (McDougal Littell, 439-441)
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act was passed. This act made it so that slaves that escaped could be held without an arrest warrent. Southerners agreeded with this because they saw slaves as something they owned. Northerners were very against this because the slaves wouldn't be safe when they get to the north.   • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Harriet Beecher Stowe was angry about the Fugitive Slave act. Her anger inspired her to write "Uncle Toms Cabin" in 1852. The novel is about the cruelty of slavery and describes the escape of a slave name Eliza and her baby. The northerners liked the book but the Southerners argued that the book presented false picture of the south and slavery. The book heightened the tension between the North and South. It brought bloodshed to the west and even to congress. (McDougal Littell, pages 485-486)

    Bleeding Kanas
    The "Bleeding Kansas" was when John Brown and some other men attacked 5 of the proslavery neighbors. After other people found out about this violence, a Civil War broke out in Kansas for 3 years. After the war, the territory was to be called "Bleeding Kansas".

    On Good Friday president Lincoln and his wife went to a theater to watch a play and an assasin came and shot Lincoln in the head. He went to the hospital and died there early the next morning.

    In July 1914, the first World War began. There was a sudden outburst of war in Europe which astonishment the US. This was a big bloody battle. There were two groups, the Allies (France, United Kingdom, Russia) and the Central Powers (Germany and Austria-Hungary) . This whole war started because a man in Serbia killed Archduke Francis Ferdinand. from Austria.
  • Stock Market Crash of 1929

    Stock Market Crash of 1929
    Analysts warned the stock market owners that they wouldn't keep getting millions of dollars and that it wouldn't last forever and no one believed them. Finally in October people stopped buying stuff but then followed by that was an even wilder selling craze. After that the stock prices began to fall and Investors tried to sell their goods but no one would buy anything. They started to lose over 4 billion dollars and people found out and began to panic and lots of people were left with no mone

    The First Appearance of Superman in Action Comics
    Superman was one of the first major superheros. Superman was originally evil. Before Superman was in a newspaper and he was a bald madman. No wonder it wasn't sucessful. BUt the writers thought, "hey I wonder what would happen if Superman was good instead of evil?" That's how it all started.

    World War II

    World War II (WWII) was a long and bloody war that lasted for six years. Officially beginning on September 1, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland, World War II lasted until both the Germans and the Japanese had surrendered to the Allies in 1945.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was when the Japanese Navy did a suprise attack on Oahu, Hawii, which was the U.S. Pacific base. There were bombs, fires, and many explosions which wrecked 188 airplanes, killed 2,403 American sailors and soliders and harmed 1,178 more.

    The dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima
    On this day an Americana bomber named Enola Gay dropped a five-ton bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The power of 15,000 tons of TNT decreased four square miles of the city to ruins and immediately killed 80,000 people. Tens of thousands more died in the following weeks from wounds and poisoning. Three days later, another bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki, killing nearly 40,000 more people. A few days later, Japan surrendered. To this day Japan still remembers being attacked.

    Spider-Man is a fictional character who appears is lots of comic books published by Marvel Comics. Spider-Man's creators gave him super strength and agility, ability because he needs the ability to cling to most surfaces. When Spider-Man first appeared in the early 1960s, teenagers in superhero comic books were normally meant to be the role of a sidekick to the protagonist. The comics are about a teenage high school student and a person behind Spider-Man's secret identity.

    Just around 9 miles above Flordia in 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded. Sadly everyone in there died. This is important becasue for 2 years they put off launching space shuttles just because this happened.

    9/11 was when terrorits from Saudi Arabia crashed their airplanes into the Twin Towers. The first plane went into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Then the second plane crahsed just 17 minutes later into the South Tower. Smoke, dust, dirt, and fire was everywhere and many people were trapped.
