  • Sinking of the USS Maine, Future 2

    The sinking of the USS Maine united the American people against Spain. Spain was seen as treacherous and barbarious. The song by Mary Elizabeth Lamb helped further this feeling by calling for vengeance: "Awake! it is no dream; Dost hear the sailors scream? Comrades will you go? Avenge the cruel blow!" This represents future 2 because The United States is declaring war on Spain and invading Cuba as a direct response to an attack on our assets.

We shall give general financial support, and it is understood that Mexico is to re-conquer the lost territory in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona" Future 3 Countries are working together to solve common problems of the world.

    This is future 1 because it talks about banding together with democratic nations. It also talks of, as seen in this quote, that the world will be made better if the US spreads democracy.

Therefore, it must stand alone

Future 3 "promote international co-operation and to achieve international peace and security" This is future 3 as it discusses all of the necessary steps needed to be taken so that peace can be acheived once all the countries work together.

Future 4 "Let no man or woman thoughtlessly or falsely talk of America sending its armies to European fields" This represents future 4 as it shows how America will remain isolated and will stay out of all foreign affairs in regards to the war.

    This is future 1 because is talks about the world getting together, who have democracies, to eliminate dictators and try to keep the world safe. However, the US is still not involved in the war, so we are not completely in future 1 yet.

    This is a speech by FDR about the attacks of the Japenese on the US and how we must get involved in the war. Future 2 "There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger." This represents future 2 because it discusses how the US is directly affected by the war. It also talks about how it is in our best interest to get involved in the war and to fight back because it has now directly affected us as a nation.

    This was a turning point because US is finally involved so it’s going to work, since they weren’t in the previous,league of nations, to promote peace before.

    This represents a turning point in the US because of the war because people were being stripped of their rights and fear was clearly prevelent throughout the nation.

    This was a committee who interviewed government workers to ensure no one was a communist or had any sort of communist ties.
    This represents a turning point for the US because people were very afraid and there was paranoia everywhere. This was also a change because people were losing some of their rights as human beings and citizens of the United States.

    The US gave financial aid to postwar European countries.

    Future 2 because the US was simply offering money for its own benefit. It strengthened ties with our allies, and so the US can benefit economically itself.

    This was a turning point for the US because we were now offering help in places that we saw fit. We were utilizing our own resources to help other countries which would eventually boost the economy of our own.
