  • The Years of the Revolutionary War

     The Years of the Revolutionary War
    The American Revolutionary war began in 1775 between the thirteen colonies and Great Britan. It was started because the thirteen colonies had declared themselves free of Britain’s rule by writing a letter, The Declaration of Independence, to their King saying so. Britain had wanted power over the thirteen colonies, so they sent troops over and made it so that whoever won the war, got their way. Britain, underestimating how badly “Americans” wanted their freedom, lost of lack of effort.

    The Signing of the Declaration of Independance
    The Declaration of Independence is a famous letter written by Thomas Jefferson to the king of England from all "americans". The letter explained that the 13 colonies were no longer under King Georges rule and that they were to be a free country, a democracy. The letter is what led us into the revolutionary war, which was fought for us to gain our freedom.

    Ratification of the United States Constitution
    The Ratification of the United States Consitution was on September 17, 1787, but that ratification was only by delegates from the colonies. They needed approvel from state governments and the people. Copies of the Constitution were sent out to all 3 colnies who, over the course of 3 years, agreed to the constitution and it became law.

    The Louisiana Purchase
    On April 30, 1803, the size of the United States doubled. Thomas Jefferson had made the Louisiana Purchase, a plot of land that stretches from the Mississippi RIver to the Rockey Mountains. This gave the United states complete control over the Mississippi River, which is big because it helped farmers ship more goods faster from the west to the east.     The Lewis & Clark Journey
    After Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, he sent out a group of explorers out to explore it. This group included; Captain Meriwether Lewis, accompaned by Lieutenant William Clark to oversee a group of explorers. Along the trip, the group met an indian girl (Sacagwea) who helped them with her ability to speak both the indian languages as well as english. Lewis and Clark successfully went all the way from the east coast to the west, oweing much success to Sacegwea.

    The Texas Revolution was fought between Texas and Mexico. Texas and Mexico had had some tension for quite a while, and Texas wanted to kind of become their own country, sparking a war.     The War with Mexico
    For a good while, Mexico had been offering land (Texas) for tax-free american settlent. Of course, many Americans took this oppertunity. After a while though, tension developed between Mexico and America, for americans had mexicans way outnumbered, and Mexico had started putting taxes and laws on the Americans.   • The Donner Party

    The Donner Party
    While on their way to the west, all wagon trains had to cross the Rocky montains, And if you were to late in the spring, you got stuck, and died. That's what happened to the Donner party While on their way to the west, they tried to take a shortcut that was actually longer, and got stuck in the snow, five feet of it. For the next month or so they ate everything they had but eventually had to resort to cannibalism. Eventually though, rescuers found the few survivors, surrounded by human "parrts."

    The California Gold Rush
    In 1849, a man named James Marshel had found gold in California, and after that, it seemed like every just flocked to California to find gold and "get rich quick." This is important because it helped populate California and the west, boosting he economy and changing history. Sadley, not many found their desired gold, though some was found, not enough to make you out of your mind rich The California Gold Rush ended in 1952, leaving California populated with people who were once gold hungry.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive Slave Act was a law stating that any accused fugutive could be held (sent to jail) unless they had an arrest warrent. Southerners supported this law because they saw african americans as property. This enraged Northerners because this act required them to help catch runaway slaves. Slave catchers were allowed to catch FREE slaves in the north.This made more people join the abolitionist movement and defy the law.   • Bleeding Kansas

    At election time in Kansas of 1855, there were more people that opposed slavery that those who supported it living in the territory. During the election, about 5,000 missori residents cme and voted illegally for Kansas legislatures, filling their government with pro-slavery representatives. Anti-slavery settlers rejected this government and both pro and against slavery sides armed themselves for the mobs and battles that were to come.   • Harper's Ferry

    Harper's Ferry
    On october 16th, 1859, John Brown and18 other men captured Harpers Ferry Arsenal, John got the word out to rally local slaves but none came. Some of Browns men escaped but brown and six others were captured and 10 were killed. Information gathered from McDougal Littel's "American History" textbook.

    The Battle of Gettysburg (Day 1)
    The first day of the battle of Gettysburg was unexpected. The south had been heading towards Washington D.C., Harrisburg, and Philidelphia but had to turn around when they discovered the bridge they needed to cross had been burned by villagers. However, on their journey back, the Union had been traveling north and ened running into the confederates, at Gettysburg.

    The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    Aberham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theatre. John was a racist man angry with Aberham Lincoln for everything he was trying to do (end slavery), but his origanal plan was to kidnap Abe, but after Abe changed plans, ruining his kidnapping plan John tried to reschedule. But later, he releaized the south was startng to lose the war and he planned Abes assassination, this time succeding.

    Mark the years of World War I
    World War 1 began in 1914, because of Austria’s Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie’s assassination on June 28, 1914. Archduke had been the nephew of Austria’s emperor, and heir to the throne. He was not necessarily well liked, but since he had been assassinated by Serb nationalist, the emperor viewed it as a huge excuse to attack Serbia. Eventually everyone jumped in, and World War 1 was born.

    After WWI, people began to invest in stock, hoping that the prices would rise and they would my money. The trend caught on, and by 1928 the stock market was booming, normal people were becoming millionares in a matter of monthes, just because of a few stocks. On September 5, 1929 stock prices began to drop, then on October 29, stock prices plummeted and we slipped into the Great Depression. :(

    The First Appearance of Superman in Action Comics
    Superman first appeared in the first issue of "Action Comics" in June, 1938. This comic series featured many "superheros", the most notible had been Superman. Because of this, Action Comics is considered the true beginning of superhero comics, and is now the most valued comic book of all time(the origanal copies).

    World War 2 started as trying to stop Adolf Hitler from taking over more countries and killing Jews but quickly became World War 2. The USA did not join into the battle until the bombing of Pearl Harbor sort of pulled them in. When they joined the their allies were losing to Hitler, but we were fresh and in the end, we put a stop to him.

    Pearl harbor was a naval base that was bombed by the japanese on december 7, 1941. It was an unexpected terrorist attack that "helped" bring the USA into WWII.

     The dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima
    The United States was the first and only country to use an atomic bomb.An atomic bomb is very powerful, being equivalent to blowing up 15,000 tons of dynamite over 4 square miles, and capable of killing tens-of-thousands of people. The first one we used was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan during WWII. It was being used as a way to quickly end the war, and after dropping a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan it did! Days after they were bombed, Japan surrendered to the United States, and ended WWII

     The Years of the Korean War
    The Korean War was fought between South Korea, supported by the United Nations, and North Korea, originally supported by the People’s Republic of China and the Soviet Union. The two halves quarreled for a while until the United States jumped in, occupying South Korea and the Soviet Union’s Military Forces occupying the other half. To this day, we are friends with South Korea while we are not so friendly with North Korea.

    The Vietnam War (none as the American war) was fought between America and the Vietnam government over how Vietnam needs to be more of a democracy to meet the needs of the people. No one truly won this war, but no one lost it either.

    The Inauguration of John F. Kennedy
    John Fitzgerald Kennedy was inagurated the 35th president of the United States on January 20, 1961. He was a democrat, and at that time, the youngest man to ever become president. He was assasinated before he could finish his first term, on November 22, 1963 givng his vice president (Lyndon B. Johnson) a year in office.

    Spiderman first appeared in comics in the last issue of a season of Amazing Fantasy. When Amazing Fantasy started the next season Spiderman came out with his own comic line called The-Amazing-Spiderman.
  • The March on Washington

    The March on Washington
    On Agust 28th, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech about ending segragation in the United States. This speech was so powerful, it started The March on Washington, which also was about people ending segragation. There were about 250,000 people who attended, making it the largest demonstration ever seen, it proving its importance.

    The First Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs
    On January 15, 1967 the first superball was held at the Los Angeles Collosium. The game was played by the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Cheifs, The Packers beating the Cheifs 35-10. The "Super Ball" got it's name from a once popular ball called the "super ball" that bounced really high and was made of rubber.

    The First Inauguration of Ronald Reagan
    Former President Ronald Reagon was inagurated in 1981 and served 2 terms (8 years in office) . He was knwon for being a great speech giver and for realeasing iran hostages on the day of his inaguration.
  • The Explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle

    Challenger Space Shuttle was a rocket ship that exploded on its decent to space only about one minute after take-off. Challenger had 7 occupants, one of which was a school teacher that would have been the first civilian in space. They say that Challenger exploded because of a faulty gas tank seal.

    The twin towers fell on September 11, 2001 because terriourists crashed airplanes into them. This event was very devestating because many people died, it ruined our world trade center and many important documents, and it was a terrorist attack.

    My first sister, Arwyn Robbins, was born on september 17th, 2003 in Berwyn PA.

    Barack Obama was first inaugurated president on January 20, 2009 at the White House in Washington D.C., setting the record for the biggest attendance at any event in Washington D.C.. Barack Obama won the election, “beating” Joe Biden and becoming the first African American president in the United States.
