    Kansas - Nebraska Act
    Kansas - Nebraska Act: Link The Kansas - Nebraska act was basically to get the land from Kansas to Nebraska and and appealed the Missouri Compromise. White men used popular soverignty to decide if they would allow slavery. The whole purpose of the Act was to open up land to farm in, though. It was also created to make the Midwestern Transcontinental Railroad.

    Election of 1860: Link The Election of 1860 was the election between Abraham Lincoln and John C.Breckinridge. This was serverd as the immeadite impetus outbreak of the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln won with 180 votes, and became the 16th President of the United States.

    Battle of Fort Sumter: Link The Civil War begins here. This battle lasted from April 12th - April 14th. The fort was bombarded and the people inside surrendered.

    The Montier vs The Merrimack: Link Also known as "The Battle of Hampton Roads" or 'The Battle of Ironclads", this battle lasted a whole day. This battle was a part of the Confederacy trying to break up the Union.

    The Battle of Shiloh: Link This is the battle behind the book "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh". This battle happened on the Tennesee River. The Federal Army had 40,000 soliders, outnumbering P.G.T. Beaureguard's army of 30,000 soilders.

    The Emancipation Proclamation: Link The third year of war was happening during this time. Abraham Lincoln signed The Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863. This didn't exactly free all slaves as we were taught in our earlier years, there were some limitations to the bill. The act only freed slaves in the seceded Union states, leaving slavery in the loyal states such as the boarder states.

    The Battle of Gettysburg: Link General Robert E. Lee waited for the approach of Union forces in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The weak Union forces were a perfect match for Lee's army. Battles happened in many places such as "Devil's Den" and "Little Round Top" However, the Union won.

    The Surrender at Appomattox: Link With a very weak army, Robert E. Lee decided to surrender his army to General Grant. a series of weak notes were exchanged between two leaders, and they decided on April 9th. The meeting lasted two and a half hours at the Appomattox Courthouse.
