  • French & Indian War 1754-1763

    1. Fought between England and France. 2. Fought over control of North American territories. 3. The start of the war was a result of indians, led by George Washington, killing a French officer.
  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    1. This treaty ended the French and Indian War. 2. England was determined to be the victor of this war. 3. France loses all of it's North America claims. England claims all land west to the Mississippi River and North through Canada.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    1. This prevented the colonists from moving West of the Appachlain Mountains. 2. This proclamation was established to stabalize relations between the Native Americans and the British Empire. 3. This became the first problem between the colonist and "Mother" England. The colonist didn't like being told what to do.
  • Sugar Act of 1764

    1. This act was a tax on sugar and molassess. 2. This act was established as a way of creating revenue for the British Kingdom after the French and Indian War. 3. This incident increased the colonists' concerns about the intent of the British Parliment and helped the growing movement that became known as the American Revolution.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    1. This act entitled the British to place a tax on official, legal documents in the 13 colonies. 2. The United States Congress organized a boycott and didn't buy any papers, from paper all the way to playing cards. 3. The King eventually repeald the Act because nobody was buying any papers, therefore there was no money being brought in.
  • Townshend Acts 1767

    1.This act palced a tax on various household items, such as soap. 2. Colonist boycotted and didn't buy those items. 3. Act was repealed becuase they were'nt making any money off the taxed items.
  • Writs of Assistance 1767

    1. Customs officers could search ships at their own will. 2. Few to no colonist were affected by this act. 3. Merchants felt this was an invasion of their privacy.
  • Boston Massacre 1770

    1. British Army Soliders shot and killed five civillians and injured six others. 2. Cilillians were harassing and throwing snowballs at the soliders, cause being were that the tensions between the civillian's and the King's rules, then some unknown person yelled fire and bullets went flying. 3. It is unknow who yelled fire, resulting in five deceased civillians.
  • Tea Act 1773

    1. This act was the final spark to the Revolutionary War. 2. This act wasn't actually placing any new tax on tea, it simply gave a tax break to the East India Tea company.
  • Boston Tea Party 1773

    1. This actionn was a revolt against the British Tea Act. 2. American patriots dressed as Mohawk Indians, boarded the vessels of the East Indian Company docked in the Boston harbor. 3. The "Indians" dumped over 10,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts 1774

    1. As a result of this act colonist could no longer have town meetings when they pleased. 2. A whole section of Boston's ports were closed by the British. 3. The colonies began to unify and the first Continental Congress has its first meeting.
  • First Continental Congress 1774

    1. The first Continental Congress met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, every colony except Georgia sent delagates. 2. The colonies presented there were united in a determination to show a combined authority to Great Britain, but their aims were uniformed. 3. The objectives of the body were not entirely clear but, with such leadership as was found there, a core set of tasks was carried out. It was agreeable to all that the King and Parliament must be made to understand the grievances.
  • Quartering Act 1775

    1. The United States colonist had to provide food, housing, etc. for the Britsih Soliders. 2. They were forced to take care of the soliders like they were family..FOR FREE! 3. The colonist hated this, but little could be done to stop it from happening.
  • Concord 1775

    1.On a bridge outside of Concord, the British were met by hundreds of Minutemen waiting for their arrival. 2. The Minutemen forced the British to retreat.
  • Lexington 1775

    1. The British soliders reached the town of Lexington during the night, where Captain John Parker and 70 minutemen were waiting. 2. "Shot Heard Round the World" the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired at Lexington. 3. After the battle the British marched right on to Concord.
  • Second Continental Congress 1775

    1. The Second Continental Congress met in Philidelphia. 2. The congress created the Olive Branch Petition to declare their loyalty, but also to ask for the repeal of the Intolerable Acts. 3. They also established the Continental Army with George Washington of Virginia as their commander.
  • Fort Ticonderoga 1775

    1. Fort Ticonderoga occupied a strategic point between lakes Champlain and George. 2. The fort held a supply of cannon and other artillery, which were items badly needed by the rebel forces. 3. The fort was very lightly defended.
  • Bunker Hill 1775

    1. The British marched up Bunker Hill to remove the Continental Army. 2. The Continental Army soliders were ordered by their commander, “Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes”. 3. The Continental Army was low on supplies, resulting in the army to retreat.
  • Common Sense

    1. The Common Sense pamplet opened up the Americans eyes that we shouldn't be ruled by someone that is 3,000 miles across the ocean. 2. This pamplet influenced Americans to take control and get their independence. 3. Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine.
  • Declaration of Independence 1776

    1. Thomas Jefferson wrote the rough draft, of the declaration, in a matter of 2 days. 2. On July 4, 1776, Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. 3. The Declaration is initially the "break-up letter" with Great Britian.
  • Battlle of Long Island- New York 1776

    1. The reason for this battle was becuase the British wanted to capture New York City, the center of the Colonial economy. 2. British attacked Washington’s army on Long Island and inflicted heavy casualties. Washington avoided capture and retreated to Pennsylvania. 3. The British stayed in New York for the rest of the war.
  • Battle of Trenton 1776

    1. Washington launched a surprise attack 2. Had to cross the frozen Delaware River. 3. He captured over 800 Hessian prisoners without losing any of his men.
  • Battle of Princeton 1777

    1. Washington captures another 300 British soldiers 2. Happened only a few days after Trenton. 3. Another suprise attack.
  • Battle of Saratoga 1777

    1. Saratoga is a turning point in the war. 2. American General Horatio Gates surrounded Burgoyne’s remaining forces.Burgoyne surrendered his entire army to the Americans 3. Benjamin Franklin would help negotiate Treaty of Alliance with France and Spain.
  • Winter at Valley Forge 1777-1778

    1. Washington and his men spent the long cold winter of 1777-1778 in Valley Forge Pennsylvania. 2.The American troops were in desperate need of food and warm clothing. 3.French volunteer Marquis de Lafayette used his own money to help and train the Continental Army.
  • Battle of Yorktown 1781

    1. British General Lord Cornwallis moved his troops to Virginia to set up camp and wait for reinforcements. 2. Washington set the ultimate trap, and blocked Lord Cornwallis in. 3. Before he could leave, a fleet of French battleships sailed into the Bay…Cornwallis was now trapped.

    1. Great Britain recognized the United States as an independent nation. 2. United States gained all land east of the Mississippi River from Canada to Florida. 3. U.S. agreed to return all property taken from Loyalist.
