  • Thomas Paine publishes Common Sense

    Common Sense was created to show citizens the importance of independence from Britain. He was trying to create a push for democracy among the colonies and wanted the people to know the greatness that could be achieved by their freedom from Great Britain.
  • Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    The signing of the Declaration of Independence was what marked America’s freedom and independence as it’s own nation. It could now create a country marked by the wants and needs of its people, a democracy ruled by the people.
  • Adam Smith publishes the Wealth of Nations

    The Wealth of Nations argued that free-trade, powered by people’s self-interest in succeeding, would create it’s own wealth for America. This book had a global impact and promoted a free-market in the interest of its people.
  • The American Revolution comes to an end

    The end of the Revolution marked the time in which America could begin to establish its own true government and ways of governing. This was the beginning of how America has come to be, and because of the way the government was established, the rights of the people would also be established.
  • Signing of the Constitution

    The Constitution established the fundamental principles of the American government as well as basic civil rights for the people. Without the Constitution the people would never have been able to achieve the rights that they have received to this day.
  • George Washington becomes the 1st president

    George Washington set a precedent as to how to govern the nation and its people. He was able to form a stable way of governing which has continued into the present day.
  • Bill of Rights Ratified

    The Bill of Rights established the first ten Amendments for the American people. It protected some of their basic unalienable rights, which are still protected today. This is important because it was the first true attempt of a government trying to protect the rights of people.
  • Start of the War of 1812

    This is an important war because the U.S. fought and was able to once again achieve free trade for the nation. It was also able to end impressment of American sailors.
