    The Espionage Act or 1917 made it illegal to interfere with the operations of the military to promote the success of the enemies. Also, prohibited many forms of speech thought to be disloyal to America. Conservative move and the 1st time America has suppressed people's freedom of speech due to war.
  • Chicago Race Riot

    Chicago Race Riot
    The Chicago Race Riot of 1919 was a major racial issue that began on July 25 and ended on August 3, 1917. It started because a Chicago African American teen violated the invisible boundary of Chicago's beaches. That teen was stoned and drowned to death by a group of white teens. 38 people died while hundreds were injured and many people were impacted by this riot.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    The 19th amendment passed on August 18, 1920 stated that "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex". This ended about 100 years of women (mostly) protesting for the right to vote.

    The Emergency Quota Act of 1921 was signed into law by President Warren Harding on May 19, 1921. It restricted the number of immigrants to 357,000 per year. Also, set down an immigration quota by which only 3 per cent of the total population of any ethnic group already in the USA in 1910 could be admitted to America after 1921. It was intended to be a temporary measure but the National Origins Formula continued until 1965.

    Adkins vs. Children's Hospital
    Adkins vs. Children's Hospital was a Supreme Court case (5-3) ruled that minimum wage laws violate a citizen's right to freely contract work. This Supreme Court reversed its own reasoning in Muller vs. Oregon, on the ground that women and men are legal equals.

    The Stock Market Crash or Black Tuesday began on October 24, 1929 that eventually lead to the Great Depression that lasted for 10 years. Billions of dollars were lost, making it the most devastating stock market crash in history.
