Unit 1 Foundations of Government

  • John Trumbull Sr.

John was the only man to serve as a governor in both an english colony and American state. He was also the only governor American enough to take up patriotic cause in the Revolutionary war.
  • Benjamin Rush

Mr. Rush helped write the D of I, Rush was a civic leader, writer, physician, educator, and humanitarian during his boring life. The only thing really important about him was the fact that he helped write the D of I.
  • John Witherspoon

A dude who came to this country to become president of a place called Princeton University. He helped shape the country into America. He was a huge advocate for colonial independence. Also signed the D of I.
  • Declaration of Independence

The declaration of I. was a breakup letter to the United Kingdom. It was written by 5 people, which is cool because there's 5 parts of the D of I. In the beginning there was a preamble, an intro, which grew into a new theory of government, it was a different type. The reasons for seperation from the UK are the 3rd part of the breakup. America tried to resolve the differences with the UK but that didn't work. Because of this, the last part of the D of I was a formal declaration of war.
  • John Jay

This dude was pretty well-known I'm guessing from all his tiles. This man is a founding father, signer of the treaty of Paris. He was also an American statesman, Patriot, and a diplomat... this guy wanted his name to be remembered.
  • John Hancock

A really rich, true American patriot, who used his wealth as a weapon against the British by gaining public support for screwing off the UK. He also signed the D of I and was a governor of Massachusetts.
  • Charles Carrol

One of the founding fathers. He was a planter with a fat net worth. Also was an early advocate for kicking the UK out of America's life.
  • U.S. Constitution

A really long and boring document telling us the laws of the country after the Articles of Confederation. The U.S. Constitution pretty much saved America as a whole by bringing all the states together to make the United States of America.
  • Fifth amendment

So basically if you don't wanna talk about murdering someone or stealing something then boom... you don't gotta, thanks to the 5th amendment.
  • Bill of Rights

The Bill of Rights was a document that made up the ten amendments in the US Constitution. A really old dead dude named James Madison Wrote the Bill of Rights so that each state would have better constitutional protection for individual rights for the people and states.
  • E Pluribus Unum

So think about all of the 13 colonies. together they make one great nation, because of this the saying "E Pluribus Unum" meaning Out of many, one. Or one of many, altogether we make one.
  • John Peter Muhlenberg

John was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Him and his bros traveled to Europe where he learned stuff from a merchant. After that he joined the Royal American Regiment of Foot in the British Army, after that he became a famous preacher until across Swedish and German Lutheran congregations near Philadelphia. Soon after he said farewell to his congregation and was said to have torn off his clerical garb and say "There is a time to pray and a time to fight, and that time has now come!"
  • 5 principles of Alex de Tocqueville

Liberty: The Government can't force me to do nothin!
Egalitarianism: You're just as important as your neighbors.
Individualism: Chase your dreams dude, no one can stop you but you
Populism: You get a say, and you get a say, everyone get's a say in these politics
Laissez-Faire: If that government touches this economy i swear I'm gonna beat it black and blue.
  • Eminent Domain

"If you own it and pay for it... well too bad take my money and give me it, I kinda need to build a road here." ~ The US Government
  • In God We Trust

It's the saying of the US. It also replaced E pluribus enum.
