    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    First document that limited a kings power. We used it to limit our government when creating our government.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The war between the French and the British where the French and Native Americans teamed up against the British. It contributed to the British territory gains in America. It also contributed to the British putting taxes on the colonists because they were in debt.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre started with the colonists taunting the British soldiers by throwing things such as snowballs, sticks, and rocks. The British retaliated by opening fire on the colonists, killing and injuring several. This event united the colonists against the British which was a step towards the Revolutionary War.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    An event where they dumped tea into the ocean off of ships dressed as American Indians. It was orchestrated by the Sons of Liberty to protest the tea tax. It sparked the feud between America and the British contributing to the American Revolution.
  • Lexington & Concord

    The first battle of the American Revolution. America won the battle.
  • John Locke established inalienable rights

    John Locke established inalienable rights
    The iconic life liberty and pursuit of happiness. These rights can only be taken away by due process. They established the American mindset of freedom.

    Declaration of Independence was approved
    The Declaration of Independence listed the colonists complaints, explained why they should be free, and (obviously) declared their independence. This marked the official beginning of America.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The second battle that America won. The French allied with America for this battle which gave them a much needed advantage after losing a few battles in a row. This was a major turning point in the Revolutionary war.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The last battle of the Revolutionary War. The British surrendered to the Continental Army led by George Washington.
  • Treaty of Paris was signed

    Treaty of Paris was signed
    This treaty officially ended the French and Indian war AND the American Revolution. The treaty states that French forfeits all of its North American territory, ending any threat to the colonists.
  • U.S. Constitution was written

    U.S. Constitution was written
    The Constitution turned the hypotheticals and goals from the Declaration of Independence into a government system. It stated that the people hold the power, which is proven by being able to choose our own representatives and president.
  • Bill of Rights was established

    Bill of Rights was established
    The bill of rights is ten amendments stating basic human rights in addition to the Constitution. At the time, it was mainly for the sake of the colonists peace of mind. Now, they are an insurance of things that the government under no circumstances can take away.
  • Industrial Revolution

    The first use of factory’s in America. The north mainly benefited from this manufacturing change, the south still depended on slavery. The Industrial Revolution shaped how developed America is in the manufacturing world today.

    The Emancipation Proclamation was the document that changed the status of slaves in the south from slave to free. This was significant because it abolished all of slavery in America and set the people on the path to being equal

    Deemed as the largest battle ever fought in the U.S. It was a Union victory and it stopped the Confederates from moving further north.
