    Kalan'iopu'u died in early 1782.His death was caused by old age. After his death a war began between Kalan'iopu'u's son Kiwala'o and Kamehameha. Kamehameha won the battle and Kiwala'o was killed. Kamehameha now took control of Kona, Kohala, and northern Hamakua.

The waters of 'Iao stream where blocked by bodies of dead warriors. Because of this there is a reason why the battle was called Kepaniwai. Kepaniwai means "dammping of the water."

The chief of Oah'u Kalanikupule escaped this battle but was captured a couple mouths later. Kamehameha won the battle of Nu'uanu and is now in control of all the islands except Kaua'i.

Kamehameha attempt to take over Kaua'i two times and both times he failed. Due to a storm, rough seas, and epidemic. The chief of Kaua'i, Kaumuali'i eventually joined forces with Kamehameha probably to avoid future invasions attempts. Kamehameha has now united all the islands.
