Louie Zamperini is born into a wonderful, loving family on the twenty-sixth of January, Nineteen seventeen. His family consisted of Louise Zamperini, his mom, Anthony Zamperini, his dad, Pete Zamperini, his brother, Sylvia Zamperini, his sister, and Virginia Zamperini, his other sister.1 -
Louie Zamperini's family moves to Torrance, California. They moved there while he was still young. He lived there or the rest of his childhood and most of his adulthood. This became known as Louie's hometown. Louie made a lot of trouble when he was a child, also. -
Louie Zamperini Started a smoking addiction at a young age. He actually started smoking at the age of five. He would steal the used cigarette buds out of ash trays and savor them. When he would have money, he bought them himself. -
Louie Zamperini started drinking. He would steal liquor from his parent's drinking cabinets. He would sneakily steal sips from people's cups when they were't looking. He was very mischievous and up to no good. His parents were disappointed. -
Louie got into a lot of trouble when he was a kid.He stole cooked meals from his neighbors. He stole from stores. He smokd. He drank. Pretty much any possible thing you could think of that was bad, he did. Because of this, his school threatened to kick him out if he did not get his act together. His brother, Pete offered to coach him in track and this saved Louie. -
Louie Zamperini worked very hard at achieving the goin of being in the olympics, and he did it. He tried out by running in the olympic qualifier race held in New York, and came in second place. Sadly, he only lost by less than one-hundredth of a second. Luckily, he still qualified to participate in the olympics. -
Louie finally got to run in the olympics. After all his hard work, he finally made it! He ended up placing 8th in the 5,000 meter run. He blew away everyone because the last lap of his run was his fastest at only 56 seconds. -
Louie Zamperini attends the University of Southern California. He was invited o go to school here in honor of a running scholarship. This could take Louie big places in life. He also met a good friend in collage. His name was Jimmie Sasaki. They had similar paths in mind in life. They stayed good friends all throughout Louie's collage years. -
Louie decided that his carer that he wanted to pursue in life was the Army. He really wanted to help out in the war, and he was very smart so he thought he would be a good asset. He applied to the United States Army Air force, and passed on the second try. -
While Louie was at the movie theater with a group of his friends watching a movie, the bombing of Pearl Harbor took place. It was all over the news. This was his off-time from training. He was stationed at Texas at this time and was immediately called back to help. -
Louie’s crew was sent from training to Oahu to fight in the war.They packed all their bags to go to oahu.Lewis a few days before he left for the trip sent his mother airmen wings, and of course, Phil will miss cecy so much. All of the men were devastated to be leaving their wives, children, and girlfriends. They would someday meet with them again, though. -
A bomber-crew crashed into the pacific, stranding nine men on a raft. Within a few days, one had died and the rest had gone mad. They had all gone crazy, hearing random noises and screaming. They were rescued only a few days later, and surprisingly, they could even lift their arms up to wave. -
A Telegraph arrived at Louie's family announcing his disappearance. His family must endure so many emotions. Their love for Louie keeps them suffering because of his disappearance. They are very sad and they miss their boy. They believe he is still out there, though. -
The B-24 was on a runway ready for flight. The plane went off into the dark sky. In the morning Lewis got news that the plane went missing. They ran to the beach in search of their missing friend. Later that day, they found the plane on the ocean floor. -
July 1943- Louie and his two crew mates from the green hornet were left stranded in the middle of the ocean, barely holding on for survival. The people on the lifeboat consisted of Louie, Mac, and Phil. The only two of the three that survived were Louie and Phil. Mac died to a shark attack while defending Louie. -
Louie, Mac, and Phil are left in a small raft with little necessities for survival in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They only had one chocolate bar to survive off of. A few days in, Mac ate the whole thing. Phil and Louie were angry at him, but did not let him discover their emotions.

Louie’s family spent their first Christmas without Louie. Despite Louie, they made sure their tree was decorated with popcorn and cranberries. Under the tree were presents were loads of presents left for Louie.They even wrote christmas cards to Louie..They missed Louie a lot and had hope they would find him. They made sure to have presents for him for when he would be returning home. -
Louie, Frank Tinker, and a few other Ofuna veterans stood by the gate of the Omori POW camp. They were sad and depressed. They had little, or no hope for the future. They were trapped in a prison camp, in the middle of a war, sick, on the verge of death. They were worked endlessly doing chores for the guards of the camp. -
Louie was endlessly tortured by the Bird. The bird’s real name was Mutishiro Wantanabe. He was a very scary man. To the men, it seemed like his only life goal was to torture Louie. One of the many things he did was make every single POW in the camp slap Louie across the face. If they did bot participate, they would be slapped too. -
Louie was officially declared dead. The government had sent out a notice about the confirmation of death to his family. His family was devastated. They never gave up hope of finding him, and they always believed that he was out there. They still continued to look for him, despite everyone else’s beliefs. Turns out, their intuition was right. -
The crewmembers’ families of the green hornet received telegraphs announcing their son’s deaths. The families were devastated. This was exactly 13 months after the Green hornet crashed. The families were so sad. Louie Zamperini’s family had hope, despite other people’s opinions. “He’s not coming home.” they said.”you're getting your hopes up.” they said. Little did they know that the Zamperinis were right. -
Louie was sent to a new POW camp called Aomori, just outside of Tokyo. He was told that it was good and that it was an improvement from the last camp. Louie was beyond thrilled that the Bird would not be there, and that was all that mattered to him. Little did he know that the Bird would transfer to that camp just to torture Louie. -
Louie finally got to return back home to his family. The war was over. He had spent three long years in and out of POW camps. Now he finally got to see his family for the first time in over three years. Louie later suffers with major PTSD and severe flashbacks from the war. His family still loved home, but he wasn’t the same Louie that left to go fight in the was three years ago. -
A B-29 flew over all of the Pow camps signaling that the war was over. After three long and torturous years, the men had finally heard some good news. They were so ready to go home. The thing was though, they weren't able to go home until 2 months after the war was over. During the time of waiting, they filled themselves to the brim with food. Anywhere where there was food, they ate. -
Louie had a flashback of when he was a boy. In the California mountains on a June day, Louie saw a mess of boys tumble from a truck blinking in the sunshine. Hostile-looking, angry-faced teenage boys stood on the pavement in Juvenile detention cloth. This reminded Louie as a younger version of himself.
