There were two sides, the North (The Union), and then the southern states (The confederates). The union wanted to stop slavery but the Confederates didnt want to give it up. The war went on for four years. there were many lives lost and lost of blood shed.
It is said to be the most bloodiest war in American history, and one of the Bloodiest wars in the world -
After the Civil War ended, after Lincolns Emancipation Prclamtion speech, and The union won. john Wilkes Booth assassenated the President of the United States.

There was a public outcry, and after a few weeks of searching, Booth and his assotiates were hung for thier crimes.
