  • French and Indian War/Seven Years War

    This was a war between the British and the French. The Indians or native americans were on both sides and it was mostly a war fought on the land using the Natives knowledge of the land and their guerrilla war tactics. The British ended up winning and pushed the French off their land in what is now Canada. The British took land and gained it. They then settled it over the treaty of paris.
  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    The treaty that ended the French and Indian/Seven Years War. This document was the terms of surrender and pushed the french out of what is now Canada. This made the french leave their land in north america which was then taken by the British. This led to the Proclamation of 1763.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    This was the Proclamation by King George II. This forbade all settlers from moving any further west than the appalachian mountains. This was because that was the Indians land and the King wanted to keep away from conflicts. This made the settlers very unhappy with the King. This was because they had just fought for the rights to that land and then they were told they weren't allowed access to it.
  • Stamp Act

    This was a tax on all paper items and legal documents. This was the first of many taxes. The purpose of these taxes was to get Britain money to pay off the debt they had from the french and Indian war.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston massacre was the short skirmish. It was between an angry mob that had formed with people who had lost their jobs and were blaming it on the british. The story goes that one of the people in the mob had said, "why don't you fire!" and one of the soldiers shot and killed on of those in the mob. The other soldiers then proceeded to fire killing seven more for a total of eight dead. This made its way to the public helping to spark the flame of the revolution.
  • Committees of Corespondence

    These were essentially shadow governments. They were run by the patriot leaders. These ran the thirteen colonies during the british rule. These were also in opposition of british rule.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This was a protest against british taxes. They went to the boston harbor and dumped the tea from the ships overboard. It was caused specifically by the Tea act. This specifically was a protest against taxation without representation.
  • Intolerable Acts

    These were laws put into place as punishment for protests against British rule. This was specifically to punish them for the Boston Tea Party. This was a punishment for the massachusetts colony in response to the Boston Tea Party.
  • Lexington and Concord

    These were the first military engagements of the revolutionary war. These two battles were fought between the British and the Colonies. They were fought in america.They were also fought over Independence.
  • Bunker Hill

    This was a battle between the british and the colonies during the early stages of the revolutionary war. This battle was fought during the Siege of Boston. It was fought in partly and named after Bunker hill. It was also fought mainly in Boston.
  • Publication of Common Sense

    This was a pamphlet or article written by thomas paine. It was about the advocation of independence against the rule of great Britian. This was a writing of pursation to the colonies about freedom and different political Ideals.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This was a document that declared independence from Great Britain. This declared the the colonies were no longer under British rule. This was signed by many different public officials. It was written largely by Thomas Jefferson.
  • Battles Trenton and Princeton

    George washington and his army crossed the frozen delaware on christmas day. Over the next ten days he won the battle of Trenton. He also won the Battle of Princeton. These were both largely important battles in the revolutionary war.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    This was two battles fought in the revolutionary war. These were of course fought between the British and the American Continental Army. These battles were fought eighteen days apart. Both battles ended with the American army winning. These were both huge stepping stones on the road to victory in the revolutionary war.
  • Valley Forge

    This was one of eight camps in the winter of 1777. This was also a large camp that held the majority of the continental army. This army was led by George Washington. This was still during the time of the Revolutionary war. This is also where the governors of Philadelphia fled when they were escaping british capture of the city.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    The battle of Cowpens was a battle between the british and the american colonists. This was a battle fought near the city of Cowpens in South Carolina. This battle was won by the Americans. They were under attack by Brigadier General Daniel Morgan. This was again a large piece of the puzzle in the eventual victory of the Colonists in the Revolutionary War.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    This was a major battle in the revolutionary war. This was a battle won by the Americans. This was also the final battle between the British and the Americans with the aid of the french military. This is also some times reffered to as the Surrender of Yorktown, because it was where the British surrendered and the war was over.
  • The Treaty of Paris 1783

    This was the final document officially freeing the Americans from British rule. It was signed by the representatives from Britain and the Americans. This was the final step in the direction of freedom.
