    Appomattox was the Virginia Courthouse where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union Lt. General Ulyses S. Grant. This surrender ended te American Civil War.

    The introduction of larger machinery, water power, and eventually, steam power, to the United States. This made labor easier and in turn, more jobs.

    The period when America found its superpower in its navy. The Sphere of Influence kept America, Cuba, and Puerto Rico out of European affairs.

    After Cuba revolted against Spain, America decided to intervine. Spain had come into our Sphere of Influence and America freed Cuba.

    When Hawaii was found ,the monarchy, a queen, had to be overthrow by American troops.

    Construction of the Panama Canal
    This canal connected the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean through Central America. It significantly shortened the route around South America.

    Also called the Great War, this was the war of many firsts, like tanks. Trench warfare was used, making many of the battles slow and uneventful. America had first gotten involved when a german U- boat sunk a ship carrying American passengers.

    Prohibition
    The 18th Amendment stated that the manufacture and sale of alchohol was illegal. Instead of stopping crime it actually influenced the start of mobs that were bootleggers, people who illegally made alchohol. Crime had gotten so bad that the amendment eventually had to be repealed.

    Caused by the crash of the Stock Market in 1929, this economic ressecion caused many of Americans to lose there jobs and the nation went into poverty. This reccesion stopped by the American involvement in WW2.

    Started by the Nazis Germans, the second world war involved many of the world superpowers inclding Japan, Italy, America, and Great Britian. This war brought America out of its Depression and into an age of manufacturing.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Ultimatley bringing America into the second world war, the suprise attack on Pearl Harbor upset the entire nation. It eventually brought us out of the Great Depression, this reassurted American power.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    A result of the division of the territory into North and South Korea brought the two states to war. Soon after the divide conflict after conflict led to warfare. The US and many other countries of the UN fought the Soviet Union of North Korea.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    America found that by helping in the Vietnam War we could stop communists from taking over South Vietnam. This war upset a lot of US citizens.
  • The Gulf War

    The Gulf War
    The main purpose of this war was to flush Iraqi troops out of Kawait. Iraq had invaded Kawait and the UN had to release them.

    9/11
    A terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers in New York, the Pentagon in D.C.. and another D.C. attack. The Twin Towers fell within two hours and the western side of the Pentagon had pertially fallen. The fourth plane had been retaken by the passengers and missed D.C.
  • Operation Enduring Freedom

    Operation Enduring Freedom
    Thousands of troops went into Afganistan to stop terrorist plots, training camps, etc. The attempt to end terrorism has been an ongoing process and the war against it is still goiing on today.
  • Operation Iraqi Freedom

    Operation Iraqi Freedom
    After 9/11 the UN had decided to take action, they accussed Iraqi leader Hussein of manufacturing chemical weapons. The United States told Hussein that he and his sons had to leave Iraq or war would result and they stayed. On March 19, 2003, America delared war on Iraq.
