    The army was under the command of General George McClellan. The federal forces started to weaken. The battle of Antietam ended in a draw but it was the "boldest single draw of the war"

    General Joseph Hooker crossed the Rappahannock Ford. Robert E Lee decided to attack while the Union forces were in the forest. This was the boldest plan for the confederates. After the attack ended stonewall Jackson was injured. The Confederates had a victory under Lee's command. ​ There was 200,000 combatants. It was the largest and deadliest battle of the Civil War. General Burnside's plan was to use 120,000 troops to cross rappahanncock. The Union had a very heavy causalities.

    On September 22 after the victory of Antietam. Abraham Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation stating that slaves are no longer slaves. This did not free a single slave but it was an turning point for the war.
