the big storm hit the ship and split it into two halves. the storm took the life of one member but the other 32 people were saved. -

He decided to retire on September 1st, 1966 after experiencing many different jobs and opportunities. -

He passed away at the age of 80 in Florida on January 24th, 2009. He lived a short but very eventful life with his wife and child. Sadly, he passed away from a heart attack on a Saturday afternoon. -

On January 15th, 2016, a movie based on the even of the ship rescue, came out and was pretty popular. The producers changed a few things about the story but the message is still the same. this movie made Bernie more recognized then he was already.
