  • Social Darwinism

    -Some people prospered & others did not, economists, social philosophers & business leaders embraced The Philosophy of Social Darwinism.
    -This Philosophy adapted the ideas of the British naturalism Charles Darwin & applied them to human society.
    -Social Darwinism said stronger people, businesses, and nations would prosper, weaker ones would fail, no one had the right to interfere with the progress.
  • Father Naval Aviation

    -Between 1908 & 1910 Glenn H. Curtiss helped build a number of aircraft & set several early aviation records.
    -It made everything more faster & easier to transport created the hydroplane & seaplane marked the birth of the U.S Navy Aviation Arm air corps.

    Bolshevik Revolution

    -In 1917, two Revolutions swept through Russia, ending centuries of Imperial rule setting in motion political & social changes that would lead to the formation of the Soviet union.
    -In March, growing civil unrest, coupled with chronic food shortages, erupted into open Revolt, forcing abduction of Nicholas 2 (1868-1918), the last Russian czar. Just months later, they newly installed provisional government was itself overthrown by more radical Bolshevik, led by Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924).

    Harlem Renaissance

    -The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the Cultural, Social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem between the end of the world war 1 & the middle of the 1930's.
    -During this period Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writer, artists, musicians, photographers, poets & scholars.
  • 19th Amendment

    -The cause of the 19th Amendment was because of the women suffrage so that women would be equal as men were.
    -The amendment states that the right of citizens to vote "shall not be denied or abridged by the Unites States or by any state on account of sex.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    -The Teapot Dome Scandal was a bribery incident that took place in the United States from 1921-1922, during the administration of President Warren G. Harding.
    -Spent 6 1/2 months in prison for contempt of court & contempt of the U.S senate. While "Teapot Dome" entered the American political vocabulary as synonym for governmental corruption.
  • Henry Ford

    -Henry Ford was an engineer & early automobile manufactures.
    -Ford wanted to give workers enough buying power to purchase the cars & other goods. They were mass production he introduced the assembly live in 1914, increasing product by moving cars along a convey belt while workers completed the assigned tasks.

    Nationalist Origins Act

    -National origins Act of 1924 severely restricted immigration by establishing a system of National quotas that discriminated against immigrants from southern & eastern. Europe excluded Asians after WW1.
    -Modified the emergency quota act 1921 from 3% to 2% in which foreign-born persons of each nationality that resided in the United States was changed from 1910-1840.
    -After WW1 nationalist feelings against immigrants led Congress to restrict immigrants from Europe for the 1st time.

    -Naturism is the Policy of protecting the interest of native-born or established immigrants.
    -The belief in Naturism was a prejudicial attitude towards immigrants based on their national origin or the ethnic background Immigrants from Europe came to U.S after WW1, they became a target group KKK was the most popular radical Naturism group.
  • Pledge of Allegiance

    -In 1923, the Pronoun "my" was dropped from the Pledge of Allegiance, and the words "The Flag of The United States of America" were added.
    -In 1954, The Pledge of Allegiance underwent yet another change in 1954. Responding the threat of Soviet Communism (again more national fear), President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "Under God" to the pledge.
  • A musical by Thomas

    -"Fats" Waller called "Ain't misbehaving" that later received a Tony award as Best Broadway Musical. Waller's desire to this story was to answer quips regarding his reputation for over indulging in wine, woman, and song.
  • Harlem Renaissance Artist-Duke Ellington

    -Duke Ellington was an American composer, pianist, & band leader of a Jazz Orchestra which he led from 1923 until his death in a career spanning over fifty years in 1974.
    -The song "It don't mean a thing (If I ain't got that swing) brought about the swing dance.The white audiences eventually embraced these brilliants artists despite the highly segregated state of America.
  • Charles Lindbergh

    Became the first person to fly across the Atlantic ocean in 1927. His airplane is called "The spirit of St.Louis" He traveled from Island, New York to Paris, France. Charles Lindbergh became a national hero, he also laid the foundation for the future development of transcontinental aviation.
