  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    Missouri was seeking statehood and wanted to enter the Unites States as a slave state in Mar 3 of 1820. This created a separation between people who wanted to enter as a slave state or non slave. After this controversy, Henry Clay came up with a compromise that would make Missouri a slave state and make Maine a free state. This event would lead to the civil war because it made the south and north create envy between each other.
  • Nat Turner Rebellion

    Nat Turner Rebellion
    On August 1831, a group of around 55 slaves led by Nat Turner killed between 55 to 65 white Southerners. This killing had the highest number of fatalities caused by any slave uprising in Southern United States.This will lead to the Civil War because many innocent slaves were murdered and therefore, many anti' slave supporters were furious.
  • Mexican-American War

    In 1836, Texas gained its independence from Mexico. The United States then annex Texas as a slave state. After Polk sent troops into a disputed zone and were attacked my Mexican cavalry. This started the war Between Mexico and United States. Shortly after, the United States won and gained land. This will lead to the Civil War because it will create a rift with people who want the new land to enter a slave or non slave land.

    The Compromise of 1850
    Henry Clay established The Compromise of 1850 to control and try and stop the expansion of slave states and at the same time, strengthen the Fugitive Slave Act. It helped California enter the union as a free state, and banned slave trade in the District of Colombia. Although California entered the union as a free state and slave trade was being banned in one place, many Americans we still angry because slave was still acceptable. This caused it to lead to the Civil War.

    On September of 1850, the Fugitive Slave act was passed the Congress as part of the Compromise of 1850. This meant that any run away slave that escaped without the authority of its Master, would be captured and returned to its owner. Also meant that any person who help the runaway escape or finds them a shelter would be jailed and face consequences. This will lead to the Civil War because many Americans were furious that they could not help the run away slaves and could face jail if they did.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by Congress in 1854. This Act helped the public decide if they wanted the states, Kansas and Nebraska to be a slave or non slave states. This caused huge problems between slave supporters and people who were against slavery. This Act led the United States to the Civil War because it caused many Americans so start killing each other so they had a higher chance of winning the votes.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    Kansas was given the nickname of "Bleeding Kansas" The reason why was because there was many deaths taking place since the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Americans who were Pro and Anti slavery were murdering each other. One major killing massacre was John Brown's Raid. This led to the Civil War by creating more and more violence between Pro and Anti slavery people and was just separating them further apart.
  • Dred Scott vs Sanford

    Dred Scott vs Sanford
    This event was a court case of a Virginia Slave who was fighting for his freedom. This case was one o the most important because it went all the way up to the supreme court. He lost the case and the Supreme Court said he could not sue because he was an American of African descent.The Court also ruled that Congress did not have superior power to ban slavery in the United States. This angered many Americans after seeing how African Americans were treated and there lead the union to the Civil War.
  • John Brown's Raid

    John Brown's Raid
    In 1859, John Brown planned to raid Harper's Ferry in Virginia with a group of white settlers including four of his sons and hopefully start an uprising of slaves and help defeat slavery. His planned failed and he was defeated by militia groups and US troops led by Robert E. Lee. This led United States into the Civil War because many Southerners were outraged and shocked that someone threatened their lives and also believed that the Republican Party was at fault for this.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    In the Election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln won the presidency with most Electoral votes. Many Southerners were furious and disappointed with his victory. After Lincoln won, South Carolina seceded. This led the Confederate to bombard Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, South Carolina in 1861 which started the war.
