16 to 18 months-Physical
-May be able to walk sideways.
-Walks fast and runs stiffly.
-Jumps with both feet.
-Adds hand gestures to spoken language.
-Builds tower of three cubes. -
16 to 18 months-Cognitive
-Gradually refines concepts.
-Remembers where objects belong.
-Tries to imitate the ways parents use objects.
-Vocabulary increasae to six to ten words.
-Refers to self by name when asked. -
19 to 21 months-Physical
-Walks sideways and backward.
-Loves to run, jump, and climb.
-Squats easily in play.
-Holds two objects in hand easily.
-Uses one hand more than the other. -
19 to 21 months-Cognitive
-Can obtain familiar objects from different room when asked.
-Is interested in tiny things such as bugs.
-Likes to make marks on paper with big crayon.
-Enjoys labeling objects and parts of body.
-Uses speech to get desired results. -
22 to 24 months-Physical
-Walks with more coordination.
-Bounces and sways in simple dancing movements.
-Can seat self in small chair with ease.
-Snips paper with scissors.
-Holds crayon with thumb and fingers. -
22 to 24 months-Cognitive
-Becomes interested in the outcome of activites rather than just the activities themselves.
-Follows simple directions.
-Identifies familiar objects on TV screen.
-Has vocabulary of 50 or more words.
-Asks for food when hungry and water when thirsty. -
24 to 30 months-Physical
-Improves motor skills as torso lengthens and baby fat begins to disappear.
-Enjoys running but is unable to measure sudden stops.
-Kicks ball forward.
-Can remove wrapping from gum and candy.
-Can soap hands and arms easily. -
24 to 30 months-Cognitive
-Becomes increasingly interesteed in children's TV shows.
-Understands cause and effect in terms of own behavior.
-Enjoys playing house and imitating family situations.
-Vocabulary starts at 200 words and increases to 500 or more in this period.
-Uses two-word sentences. -
30 to 36 months-Physical
-Likes to be in constant motion, running or walking sideways or backwards.
-Goes up stairs by alternating feet, but goes down one foot at a time.
-Throws ball overhead but aim is still poor.
-Likes to paint using full arm motions combined with finger motions.
-Makes mud pies and sand castles. -
30 to 36 months-Cognitive
-Begins to classify objects into general categories.
-Tries out various roles in make-believe play.
-Recognizes self in photographs.
-Creates two to three word sentences, including verbs.
-Uses personal pronouns correctly.
