    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta is a docuemtnt written in the early 1200's. The Magna Carta's objective was to create a treaty between King John of England and the rebel barons. It was then altered to state that everybody in England, including The King, had to follow the laws created. The King, for example, would not be able to punish people by death without agreement from others. This document was a step toward a democracy instead of a monarchy.

    NIcolaus Copernicus

    NIcolaus Copernicus
    Nicolaus Copernicus theorized the sun was in a set space in the center of the universe and the earth revolves around the sun. He also theorized one full rotation of the earth around the sun was equivalent to one year. This caused great uproar and conflict in religions because his new theory contradicted many religious beliefs. Copernicus tried to align his findings to his Christian, biblical beliefs.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was written to allow the Pilgrims to live in a separate land from the king while continuing to obey the laws of the church. The Mayflower Compact was signed in 1620 by the male passengers on the boat. It contained promises of an original, positive society that was able to fully function away from England and allow the community members to live in an acceptable society under The King's law. Most pilgrims were still loyal to the church but some rebelled against The Pagans.

    Immanuel Kant
    Immanuel Kant was a philosopher that focused primarily on the knowledge of people and know knowledge works and effects others. He theorized that people act toward, what they believe to be, a moral act due to the prior motive, not the outcome of the action. Humans will do an action based on their moral beliefs, not due to what they believe the outcome will be. Beliefs trump values on a moral level in Kant's theory.

    The Declaration of Independence was written to honor America with freedom from England and England's laws. This document declares that the thirteen original colonies are free from the reins of the British Empire and allowed to make their own set of laws and regulations without the British Empire dictating the decisions of congress.

    The United States Constitution was written to describe the laws and regulations of the government in America.It describes the laws and regulations in place to ensure the government gives rights to the people. Human liberty, as written in the Declaration of Independence, is to be bestowed upon all men, as they are seen equally.
  • Eve Sedgwick

    Eve Sedgwick
    Eve Sedwick was a life long advocate for the gay community and dedicated most of her life to gender studies. She began writing about gender studies and gays in the 1980's and her writing became so popular in modern culture she was being asked to colleges to talk about her views and ideas on gender and gay studies. Eve targeted a juvenile audience which helped the modern community grow to learn about sexuality and broaden the acceptance rate in America.

    Martin Luther King Jr. I Have a Dream Speech
    The MLK Jr. I have I Dream Speech was extremely influential in the growth of black rights in America. The speech was presented in hopes of giving people of color as many rights and privileges as the white people. Many white people were angry at Martin Luther King Jr. for standing up for the blacks but that speech still remains well known today. If he did not preach this thought to America, blacks may not have the rights they have in modern times.
