Timeline of Tiberius' life

  • 42 BCE

    Birth

    Tiberius is born to Tiberius Claudius Nero and Livia Drusilla.
  • 33 BCE

    Father dies

    At the age of 9 years old Tiberius goes to live with Livia and Augustus after the death of his father.
  • 25 BCE

    Enters politics

    When he was 17 years old. Tiberius entered politics as directed by his adopted father Augustus. He gained the title of Quaestor.
  • 20 BCE

    First military command

    Tiberius is given his first military command with the aim to recover legions in Parthia. He succeeds and requests command of another active command.
  • 19 BCE

    First marriage

    Tiberius marries Vipsania Agrippina (the daughter of Marcus Agrippa).
  • 13 BCE

    Elected Consul

    Tiberius returns to Rome after a series of conquests in Gaul. Because of his successes he is named Consul.
  • 12 BCE

    Second marriage

    Tiberius marries Julia (the daughter of Augustus).
  • 9 BCE

    Drusus dies

    Tiberius' brother dies because of a broken leg. Tiberius travels 400 miles from Milan to see him die in bed.
  • Period: 14 to 37

    Reign as emperor

    He was the second ever emperor after Augustus
  • 19

    Germanicus dies

    Tiberius' adopted son Germanicus dies after being murdered by most likely Plancina.
  • 27

    Leaves to the islands of Capri

    Tiberius at aged 67 leaves to go site seeing in the islands. However, he never returns.
  • 31

    Elected Consul for the fifth time

    Tiberius is elected Consul for the fifth time at age 71. He elects Sejanus as Co-Consul.
  • 37

    Death

    Tiberius is required to throw a javelin in a ceremonial game, he ends up going into a coma and dies within a day.
