Timeline of the Honda Prelude

  • The Birth of the Prelude

    The Birth of the Prelude
At first Honda was only selling basic cars like the Civic and Accord. They never really took any risks. But those basic cars sold for low prices and they knew they would have to make a vehicle that appealed to a different crowd so they did in 1979 Honda launched the Prelude but it was basically the Accord without all the extra utility. It gathered many fans of the prelude. http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
  • The Second Gen

    The Second Gen
The second generation Prelude was a big improvement from the first one with many changes. It was longer wider quicker and faster with a new engine that put out 100 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. Although that was nice that wasn't its top new feature it was the newly made suspension that gave it quicker response time and let it take turns sharper and faster. The second gen is what shaped the preludes success for the next two decades! http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
  • The 3rd Gen

    The 3rd Gen
In 1988 Honda made more changes by adding double wishbone suspension. They also put in their most powerful engine ever at that time a 135 hp 2.0 L 4 cylinder They also had it with four wheel steering which was pretty cool. http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
  • The 4th Gen

    The 4th Gen
In 1992 Honda redid the body shape of the prelude making it look even more sportier they also improved the engine to make the car faster as well as making four wheel steering an option again. http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
  • Creation of VTEC

    Creation of VTEC
Just a year after the forth gen Preludes came out VTEC. VTEC (Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control). When you reach 4800 rpm depending on throttle position VTEC may be activated what it does is signal a spool valve to open sending oil into the rocker arms later the intake and exhaust go into this mode to for maximum acceleration. http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
  • 5th Gen

    5th Gen
The 5th gen Prelude was most likely the best of all of them but also the most expensive at around $30,000 but id did have a 195 hp engine and was a little bigger than the 4th gen. Honda also redesigned the body and had the headlights wrap around the car which gave it a very cool look. http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
  • The Final Prelude :(

    The Final Prelude :(
The final year of the prelude came with a 200 hp manual 5 speed of automatic 4 speed the ending of the prelude was mainly because more people were now choosing to buy suvs and family cars. But the prelude is still a very polar car with a certain group of people including myself. I drive a 2000 prelude and love it they were some of the greatest cars ever made! http://www.edmunds.com/honda/prelude/history/
