    In 1869 the Natioanl Prohibition Party was founded as a third party in the United States. This party played a key role in the temperance movement that was growing in the United States. The Prohibition Party was successful in getting many communities and counties to ban the sale and manufacture of alcohol.
  • Kansas Prohibits Alcohol

    Kansas Prohibits Alcohol
    Kansas becomes the first state to have prohibition in its state constitution.
  • Prohibition Party gets in the House

    In the 1890 election the National Prohibition Party gets its first party member elected to the House of Representatives. This was a big step in gaining power in US politics.
  • 18th Amendment Ratified

    18th Amendment Ratified
    The 18th Amendment which prohibits the sale and manufacture of alcohol is ratified by 36 states. This makes prohibition go into effect on a federal level.
  • Rise of Criminal Bootleggers

    Rise of Criminal Bootleggers
    The 1920s saw a large rise of bootleggers in major cities. This caused an increase in illegal and mob activities during the decade. Major bootleggers were Al Capone (pictured), Enoch Johnson, Joe Masseria, and Arnold Rothstein
