  • Battle of the Alamo

    Battle of the Alamo

    The Battle of the Alamo during Texas' war for independence from Mexico lasted 13 days while Mexican troops stormed the Alamo. This is where the famous line "Remember the Alamo" comes from.
  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War

    This war began in 1846 between the US and Mexico over whether Texas ended at the Nueces River or the Rio Grande. This war resulted in victory for the US and acquired more than 500k square miles of Mexican land.
  • Civil War

    Beginning in 1861, the Northern and Southern states of the US started a war due to slavery, states' rights and westward expansion. Also known as the War Between the States ended in 1865 when the Confederates surrendered. This was the costliest and deadliest war for America.

    Also known as the Great War which began with the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the US. More and 16 million people died.

    This was the worst economic downturn in history beginning after the stock market crash of 1929. Consumer spending and investing dropped causing declines in employment. 15 million Americans were unemployed and half the country's banks had failed.

    World War II began by Adolf Hitler invaded Poland which made Great Britain and France declare war on Germany. Of the 45-60 million people killed, 6 million Jews died in Nazi concentration camps.

    Several burglars were arrested in the office of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate Complex of buildings in Washington, DC. They were wiretapping phones and stealing documents in relation to President Nixon's campaign. Once Nixon's role was revealed in the conspiracy, he resigned.

    September 11, 2000

    19 Islamic extremists hijacked four airplanes and committed suicide attacks on the US. Two planes flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in NYC. Almost 3,000 people were killed in this attack.
