By the age of eight he was learning to climb the trees in his backyard and the rocky cliffs of the Isle of Wight
-
Accepting a foolish dare he got stuck halfway down in the mud and had to be rescued.

Since he was quite badly behaved as a child and had a bad record it was difficult to make it into university. Howerver, once he managed to het in and settled down he met his friend Trucker. Both of them had similar views and shared a thirst for adventure so they signed up for the university's Officer Training Corps. Eventually, after Training Corps they were taken aboard the SAS and continued to serve there.
-
They trained in harsh weather that drained them of all energy and the spaces were claustrophobic. The training took place in woods, mountains and training centers.
-
After much labour intensive training him and Trucker didn't make it through because they were thought to be too slow. However, they were invited back for another six month's training.
-
In the SAS he performed real tactics and dealed with scenarios much like the training. During one mission he had a had a horrible injury where he broke his back in several places after parachuting.
-
-
During the climb with a number of other companions he slipped and had a close shave. Eventually, he broke the world record in 1998 for the youngest briton to climb to the top of Mount Everest
