    Born in Pall Mall, Tennessee. He spent most of his early life in Harriman, Tennessee where he worked and took to drinking and having a temper which led to many bar fights.

    Became heavily influenced with the Church of Christ in Christian Union and turned away significantly from his alcohol addiction,
  • Drafted into World War I

    Drafted into World War I
    York was pushed into service during WWI. He often argued that his new found faith and commitment to God was conflicting with war and killing. He was placed into the 82nd Division as an infantry private, and went to France.
  • Medal of Honor

    During the conflict, Alvin York was awarded for undeniable heroism for his service. He was most famously know for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, taking 35 machine guns, killing 25 enemy soldiers, and capturing 132 German soldiers during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France.

    After the War, York experience many health problems ranging from Pneumonia, Strokes, and many surgeries. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
