    Beggining of the Third Anglo-Afghan War
    At this point in time, Russia was in the middle of its communist revolution. This created tention between Russia and Britain. who at the time had foreign influence over Afghanistan. Governor Amanullah (left) saw a perfect oppurtunity to win independence from Britain by using its current sitiuation with Russia. So in May, 1919, Amanullah launched a suprise attack against the British, starting the Third Anglo Afghan War (or Third Afghan War). At the end of 1919, Afghanistan became completely free.
  • Nadir Khan's Assasination

    Nadir Khan's Assasination
    Nadir Khan was an Afghanistan king that reigned from the 16th of October, 1929 – to the 8th of November, 1933. Before he was Killed, Nadir had made some improvements in Afghanistan; he enhanced the road constructions, including the Great North Road. He established the country's first university, Kabul University, in 1931, but did not accept students until the year 1932. On November 8, 1933, Nadir Khan visited a highschool, and during a graduation ceremony, was shot to death by Abdul Khaliq.

    Soviet Treaty Is Signed
    After the invasion of the Soviets in 1979, the Soviet government signed a treaty call the Geneva Accords. This treaty included a declaration of international gurantees, a bilateral agreement on the returning of Afghanistan refugees, and a timetable for the withdrawl of Soviet troops, which started on May 15, 1988 and ended February 15, 1989. The Mujahideen (Afghanistan resistance) did not agree with the Geneva Accords, and so civil war raged even after the Soviets had left Afghanistan.

    Burhanuddin Rabbani becomes President
    Burhanuddin Rabbani became President of the Islamic State of Afghanistan. He served temporarily from November 20 to December 20 in 2001. Burhanuddin Rabbani was among the leaders of the Mujahideen during the late 1970's. This was just before Afghanistan was invaded by the Soviets. He was also the head of an alliance of political groups who were against the Taliban. They were known as the United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan. Some years later was assasinated by two suicide bomber
  • Bush Demands bin Laden

    9 days earlier, a terroist attack was launched in America by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, under the governent of the Taliban. They hijacked four planes, two of which were crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center. Another plane crashed into the western side of the Pentagon, and the fourth was targeted at the capital in Washington D.C., but fortunatlely missed. After these horrific attacks, President Bush oredered the immediate hand-over of Osama bin-Laden, al-Qaeda's leader.
  • Operation Enduring Freedom

    Operation Enduring Freedom
    After the refusal of the Taliban to give up Osama bin-Laden, President Bush launched Operation Enduring Freedom. It was signaled by the firing from bombers, fighters like the F-14 Tomcat, and of missiles from both U.S. and British Ships. The objects of this operation against al-Qaeda were to destroy all terrorist training camps/infrastructure, obtaining the al-Qaeda leaders like Osama bin-Laden, and absolute ceasing of terrosist activites within Afghanistan. In short, to end al-Qaeda for good.
