BIRTH YEAR
He was born on February 28,1928 in Bantra,India. He was too young when his mother died so he decided to serve his country with peace. -
DREAM
He lost his mother in 1946, when he was just 11 year old. He always dreamed of helping others as his mother always taught him to be kind towards everyone. -
RELOCATION
He moved to Pakistan after the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 along with his family. -
CHILDREN SERVICES
The history of establishing the Edhi child adoption centre and childcare services dates back to 1949. -
EARLY IN LIFE
He started working in wholesale market as a sale person and after a couple of years he built up a free medical supplies with the assistance from his society. Later he requested for investment to the general population and collected Rs.200,000/-. A maternity clinic was set up and an ambulance facility begun. -
ESTABLISHMENT OF EDHI FOUNDATION
Edhi established Edhi foundation and safeguarded more than 50,000 orphans and trained more than 40,000 nurses. The Edhi foundation runs the world's biggest rescue vehicle facility and deals 24 hours emergency facilities. -
EDHI HOMES AND ORPHANAGE CENTRE
Edhi Foundation has set-up 18 homes all over Pakistan.8500 younger boys and girls including elder ladies and gents have been accommodated. -
FAMILY
He got married to Bilquis Edhi, a caretaker in Edhi centre.They have 2 sons and 2 daughters.His wife used to control the free maternity service in clinic. -
LENIN PEACE AWARD
In 1988, he was awarded Lenin Peace Award which is one of the most prestigious awards of the Soviet Union. -
PAUL HARIS FELLOW AWARD
This award was awarded to him for promoting social welfare services at Karachi. -
NISHAN-E-IMTIAZ
He was known as the "The angel of mercy" and "Pakistan's Mother Teresa". In 1989 he got Nishan-e-Imtiza from Government of Pakistan.Jinnah award for outstanding services to Pakistan was given to him in April 1998. This was the main award he received. It is known that he got hundreds of awards. -
AMBULANCE SERVICE
Edhi foundation have the largest ambulance organization of the world holding guinness book of world records. -
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
Karachi Bilquis Edhi elementary and primary secondary schools are operating at Karachi, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas. -

GANDHI PEACE AWARD
In 2007, Edhi was awarded with Gandhi peace award which is an award and cash prize presented for promoting peace. -
UNESCO-MADANJEET SINGH PRICE
it was awarded to Edhi in 2009, the purpose of this prize is to honour and reward extraordinary creative achievements in promoting tolrence and peace. -
DOCTORATE DEGREE
In September 2010, Edhi was awarded an honorary degree of Doctorate by the University of Bedfordshire. -
LONDON PEACE AWARD
For promoting peace in London, UK -
HONORARY DEGREE
He was awarded degree of Doctor of social science by Hamdard Foundation at Islamabad. -
DEATH
On July 8,2016, sadly he was diagnosed with kidney failure and died.
