    Klu Klux Klan

    The KKK was founded in the 1800´s but it had returned and made prominence in the 1920´s. The KKK was an extremely radical group that was against different races such as Jewish people and black people. They did evil things such as burning crosses and raping people.

    Palmer raids

    Mitchell Palmer is appointed general and many activists, anarchists, and terrorists begin raiding and bombing individuals and groups
  • Treaty of Versailles

    The treaty of Versailles is signed ending the great war. This leads to 1920 which holds many large and important events such as prohibition and the great depression
  • 19 Amendment

    The Nineteenth amendment was ratified allowing women to vote.
  • Volstead Act

    Congress passed the National Prohibition Act which establishes the definition of Illegal liquor and the punishment of making it.
  • Wall Street Bombing

    A horrific bombing took place from a mail carrier across from the J.P Morgan Building. This event killed 30 and Injured 300

    Treaty of Berlin

    The United States never signed the treaty of Versailles. The new treaty was created later and was practically the same besides any mention of the league of nations.
  • Sheppard-Towner Maternity Act

    President Warren G signed this bill into law. The purpose was to provide a million dollars yearly to help women and children by lowering high morality rates on mothers and babies and focused on helping rural facilities that specialized in giving women and infants care.
  • Indian Citizen Act

    This act passed which confers citizenship of all Native Americans born in the United States. It also gave citizenship to about 125,000 Native Americans
  • Great Depression Begins

    The Roaring Twenties came to an end and economical expansion halted. During a span of ten weeks stock markets crashed, losing over 50 percent of their value.
  • The Dust Bowl Begins

    Around this time a drought occurred across 23 states in the United States. Along a struggling economy, Farming was nearly impossible due to the land not being able to grow crops.
  • Food Riots/Bank Collapse

    People begin struggling for food causing riots. These riots included people breaking and entering stores in order to steal food. Over 6000 immigrants are deported because "they took jobs from real Americans".
    In December the 4th largest bank which had over $200 million in deposits had failed. The president raised the tax percentage to 25%.
  • President Roosevelt is Elected

    President Roosevelt is elected. People began to despise Hoover due to his poor efforts in fixing the economy. His big mistake was raising taxes to 63%.
  • Roosevelts "New Deal"

    The first 100 days in office the president offers plans and introduces 15 new laws that tackle the Great Depression. Another large step in his plan was closing all the banks in order to help aid the economy.
  • Prohibition is abolished

    After the Great Depression hit, tax from alcohol sales seemed appealing to cash strapped governments. President Roosevelt promised to legalize alcohol again and ratified the amendment.
  • Black Sunday

    On this day the worst dust storm hits the United States. The president helps farmers by introducing the Soil Conservation Act. Unemployment rates slowly go down.
  • Works Progress Administration

    In the span of only two months over 27,000 clubs in the share our wealth society across the United States. This collectively has over 7.5 million Americans on the mailing list.
    The Emergency Relief Appropriation creates the Works Progress Administration which hires 8.5 million people to help with the unemployment crisis.
  • President Roosevelt is Re-elected/Heat Waves

    Heat waves in the United States continued. By the end of the year these heat waves have killed >1,600 people and an additional 3,500 people drown while trying to keep cool.
  • Funding on the "New Deal" Is Cut

    Managing debt was a difficult task that caused the President to cut the New Deals program which pushed the country back into depression.
    A $5 Billion dollar relief program was enacted by congress which help the economy grow 5%.
  • World War 2 Begins

    After Hitler invades Poland the 2nd world war is started.
    Manufacturing in the United States will have to increase 50%
  • President John F. Kennedy Was Elected

    After a very close election, Kennedy won with only 118,000 votes against Nixon. John F. Kennedy was the new president of the United States.
  • First American In Space

    Alan Shephard had become the first American in space. His flight lasted 15 minutes and he went into orbit.
    Previously Kennedy had made a goal to have an American on the moon by the end of the decade.
  • March On Washington

    Over 2 hundred thousand protesters participated in the largest non-violent demonstration ever held. This was in support of the Civil Rights Legislation.
  • President Lyndon B. Johnson Was Elected

  • President John F. Kennedy Assassinated

    While on a trip to Dallas, President Kennedy was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. Lee was later killed in the Dallas Police Station garage.
  • The Civil Rights Act

    Congressed pass the Civil Rights Act which prohibits discrimination against people of color, sex, religion, and nation.
  • Voting Rights Act

    President Lyndon's speech was very moving and was known as the legislation for the Civil Rights Act.
    Support increased after Americans saw news about the hero's of the civil rights movements and murder of a white homemaker by a KKK member.
  • Tet Offensive

    The Viet Cong became desperate and launched an all out offensive against the US Embassy in Saigon. The Viet Cong were decimated and America had won the attack. However, in the United States it was viewed as a Viet Cong victory which helped Americans have a more negative view against the American side of the war.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Is Assassinated

    A lone assassin killed Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. King stepped out onto his balcony and was shot and killed. He was America's Leading Civil Rights Activists.
  • First Man On the Moon

    Before Kennedy had set his plans for, The first ever human set foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong.
  • Vietnam War Ends

    North Vietnamese forces triggered a major offensive in the highlands. NVA tanks rolled through Saigon and the presidential palace effectively ending the war.
